Raglan Backpackers and Waterfront Lodge sits right by the water in central Raglan, a short walk from cafes, shops, the bus stop, and the harbour. It has a small, old-school backpacker feel: a big shared kitchen, a cosy lounge with sofas, guitars and books, outdoor tables, hammocks, and sunset views toward the sea and Mount Karioi. The social side is the main reason to book. The place can feel more like a shared flat than a polished hostel, with easy lounge conversations, a relaxed surf-town mood, and plenty of solo-friendly energy. The main surf beach is harder without a car, and the old surf shuttle may no longer be running, so board hire is more useful if transport is sorted.
