This hostel was disgusting. I changed hostel a few hours after I checked in. There was an awful smell in the common area and bathrooms. To the extent I was gagging as I went in each time. I spent around 20minutes in the hostel and left my bags for a few hours and have had to check for bedbugs as it felt super unclean. There are other cheap hostels in the city to use instead.

What a dirty hostel please do not waste your money here! It’s close to town and that’s all! Bathrooms were filthy, dirty dishes everywhere and strange men hanging around the property. I even heard of bedbugs! And for the price it’s totally a ripoff

I was biten by bed bugs. When I arrived in another hostel in Mostar they saw it and they didn't let me stay there because of the risk of contamination. I had to spend money on laundry (although all my clothes were already clean), buy medicines, and also I was itchy during the rest of my whole trip. I don't recommend it, please go somewhere else.

No laundry facilities. They want too much money. 25 marks is a rip off. The hostel itself is not very safe. On the first night I was bullied and berated by some Turkish man. The second night by some Colombian man, who threatened to cut my throat. They said it's not their issue. I said I don't feel safe, they refused to call the police and they attempted to charge me full price for the extra night I didn't spend there. Stay away. Place is filthy too. They have bed bugs. I also saw a rat.

Two stars because nothing was as it should be. But they're working in that they let me know. To sum it up briefly, the bathroom is very uncomfortable and cold. The floor was more often wet than dry which makes going to the toilet a bit more inconvenient. You could use slippers from there but then you'll be walking to the room leaving wet footprints. The common room is inconvenient for anything more than a family (there was a family living there while I was there which made the common room be noisy sometimes from early morning which disrupted my sleep, but there was no action from the hostel. Its good for sleeping if you don't get a bed with bedbugs. (I had bedbugs in my first bed and wasnt the only one) There's a smoking room which is good and there's some mini lunch version of a breakfast. Not much, but it's packed nicely so you can take it with you perhaps for somewhere in the day. There are no chairs in the bedroom and no seperate lights, there are spacey lockers though. Ask for a lock at the reception, it's free. The property is closed off by a gate which makes it a safe place to keep strangers out. Oldest hostel in Sarajevo someone told me and I have the impression they want to preserve it in its original state :p I can't find my other pictures of the smoking area or dorm...

Vibe Analysis

Hostel Ljubicica sits in a brutally central spot in Sarajevo's Old Town, right by Baščaršija and the Sebilj area. The location is the main draw: markets, bars, shops, tram and bus links, and a bakery are all close by, so it works well as a base for moving around the center on foot. Inside, the place is basic rather than polished. Beds are often comfortable, lockers are large, and there is useful practical stuff like power at beds in some rooms and privacy in bathrooms in some setups. The staff are a strong point, with friendly, helpful service and a willingness to help with late arrival logistics or day-planning. The building can feel cramped and uneven. Some bunks have low headroom, toilets and showers can be tight, and shared areas can get messy. The kitchen and common spaces do not always feel tidy, so this fits better as a simple central base than as a place built for hanging out all day.
