Jaca Hostel Porto da Cruz
Bed bug reports
-
Confirmed Hostelworld
I wish I could give this higher. Cause the staff were great and I had a great trip regardless. But I stayed in bed number 7 in the loft. And because they’ve got fly nets on the windows and doors I can only assume that my bed is covered in bed bug bites. The indoor bathrooms were dirty. The outdoor shower was probably the best one. The staff were lovely and they did a burger night whilst I was there which was a big success. Wish I could give a higher rating but I can not.

Vibe Analysis
Pizza and burger nights are a big part of the stay here, and the hostel has a lively social rhythm. There is also draft beer on site, plus surf and yoga sessions, so it works well for easy evenings and meeting others. The hostel has a clean, comfortable feel in many areas, with helpful staff, a big kitchen, and cozy shared spaces. Some rooms have curtains, attic beds, balconies, or little sleeping nooks, which adds some privacy. Porto da Cruz gives it a calm base near the beach, but a car can make island travel easier. The location suits a slower Madeira stay, especially if you want to stay close to the village and surf spot.
Signals to check
- Some beds are shaky and noisy, especially upper bunks.
- Bathrooms and the kitchen may feel messy at times.
- Without a car, getting around the island can be inconvenient, and some rooms may feel hot at night.
