Other than the staff being nice, and the guests being good people, this place was a hole. All their time and effort goes into the overpriced cafe on the bottom floor. Also people who stayed at this hostel before me informed me of bed bugs! Also there are only two bathrooms, meaning that if you wanted to use the toilet to pee, you could end up waiting an hour.

9Ninelives Hostel is a small, central Lagos hostel with an intimate, shared-flat feel. It works best for solo travellers who want an easy social setup rather than a polished facilities machine: rooms sit close together, the kitchen and hangout spaces are compact, and the atmosphere can feel like everyone is living in one big house. The kitchen stands out more than the size suggests, with plenty of spices and enough gear for basic cooking. There is also a menstruation station, a practical inclusive touch that gives the place more thoughtfulness than the average bunk-and-key setup. The location is the main power move: old town, bars, restaurants, nightlife, and beaches are all walkable, with the beach around 10 minutes away. Staff can be very warm and hands-on, with names like Heather, Gaston, Domenico, and Maja tied to a lot of the hostel's better moments. Laundry may be available for about 5 euros, sometimes washed, dried, folded, and returned to the bed. This is still a rough-edged pick. The building is older, bathrooms are limited, summer rooms can get very hot, and sleep can be shaky from street noise, squeaky beds, thin walls, or nearby nightlife. The upside is real social chemistry; the tradeoff is that comfort, privacy, and maintenance can be uneven.
