This hostel sits on a hilltop roughly 15–20 minutes outside Ella town, and the view is the reason to come. You wake up looking out over the mountain range and valley, sometimes with clouds drifting past the dorm, and the sunrise from the mixed-dorm balcony is a genuine highlight. Because it's up the hill and away from the strip, it's quiet and surrounded by nature, and it sits handily on the way to Little Adam's Peak and the Nine Arches walk. To handle the distance, there's a free pick-up and drop-off service into town, to the train station, and to the main sights, and the drivers tend to be kind and flexible. Be aware of a recurring catch: the service generally runs only until around 6pm, despite listings suggesting late-night or all-hours transport, so you'll need a tuk-tuk number for evenings (often around 1000–1500 rupees each way). On occasion there are long waits, pressure to visit a particular tea factory, or surprise charges for rides that were meant to be free. Food is cooked on site and is a real strong point: tasty breakfasts with variety, local and international dishes, good kottu and coffee, and ingredients from nearby farms. The food can occasionally underwhelm, and the kitchen may be unavailable when the chef is off, so it isn't always consistent. The place is family-run, and the hosts and staff are the standout here — warm, helpful, going out of their way with travel tips, festival invites, and returning left-behind belongings. The social atmosphere is the big variable. When the hostel is full it can be lively and genuinely fun: bonfire nights, a sound system and dance space, occasional DJ or party, carrom and karem games, quirky art and Goa-inspired decor, and easy chances to meet people. When it's quiet — common in low season — it can feel empty, dark, and a bit strange, with no party, no fire, and not much going on, which clashes with how the place markets itself. Set expectations by the crowd, not the listing. Rooms split into the dorms and separate outdoor wooden cabins/tents on a veranda. The dorm with the valley view is the favorite, with a social layout and big doors and balcony. Hot, spacious showers are a frequent plus. The tents and small wooden huts are a weaker deal: overpriced and short on space, with no secure place for valuables.
