Auberge L'Apero has one recurring upside: the downtown Montreal location is extremely convenient, with shops, food, transit, and museums close by. A few people also found individual staff kind, and one or two treated it as an emergency cheap bed. That is where the good news mostly ends. The current and historical pattern is dirty, cramped, poorly maintained, and often unsafe-feeling: broken showers, leaks, mold, bad smells, absent reception, doors/rooms without proper locks, people sleeping in common spaces, and a clientele that several travelers did not experience as a normal traveler hostel.
