Backpackers Hostel & Pub
Vibe Analysis
Backpackers Hostel & Pub is a budget base in Everett, outside central Boston, with bus and Orange Line connections into the city. The strongest draw is the staff: Steve, Michelle, Miguel, and the front desk team can be unusually hands-on, from transit help to rides toward nearby stations when available. The place has a clean, practical setup with shared dorms, private rooms, ensuite bathrooms in some rooms, extra hallway bathrooms, simple breakfast with coffee and toast, and a common area. The style leans quirky rather than slick, with 1960s, Beatles, and rock-and-roll memorabilia around the building. This is not a classic party hostel, and the Pub part can feel more like a lounge or social room than a real bar. It works best for budget Boston trips, short stops, Salem plans, conferences, and anyone who values clean basics and helpful staff over a polished downtown backpacker scene.
Signals to check
- It is outside central Boston, so expect bus, train, rideshare, or a staff ride when available.
- Dorm bunks and mattresses can be uncomfortable, with thin bedding and noisy metal frames.
- The social scene can feel mixed, with long-term residents and older men around the common areas.
- Solo women may want to be cautious here, especially with dorm assignment and late-night comfort.
- The bar/pub setup may not match the name.
- Overbooking, room changes, unavailable shuttle service, and limited front-desk access have happened.
