Bed bugs anywhere in the hostel, they cancel my booking on Hostelworld after I check out so I can’t leave review. This hostel very far from center city they give the cheap price but when you stay here you have to pay anything double price

my single room smelled very moldy. You could see that they try to cover up the mold with white paint basically everywhere. and I found bedbug corpses behind the bed. The service guy tried to convince me to upgrade because he knew!

I arrived and they asked for my passport for ID which I declined. However was happy to give them my other ID. They said it was for deposit. Which dosen’t make sense because you usually give money for a deposit. The first room they gave me was damp and had a bad smell, they moved me to a better room but had a lot of dirt and maintence in the room yet to be completed also the sheets had stains on them not sure if it was bed bugs I was also itching but no sign of bites. It was quite noisy as well. I checked out the next day the lady who I dealt with was lovely and offered me another room however I wanted to be closer to the centre. Also theirs a steep hill which can be tiring to do daily. Overall I would say if you want to stay here for 1-2 days then do. The hospitality was the best part of the stay.

Our booking was cancelled so we couldn’t leave a review on hostel world. Rooms are very damp with no air con, bed sheets had holes in and mattress was mouldy. Room had no window and the swimming pool is freezing, with all the windows left open to make it even worse! Some rooms also had bed bugs. If you are on the first floor it is also very loud late at night and early in the morning. Family dinner is quite expensive but nice to meet people. Hostel is ok for the price but feel like there are better hostels out there!

The staff were absolutely lovely—very friendly and went out of their way to help us book an activity for the following day. We also really enjoyed the food at the hostel—it was surprisingly good and also helped my friend retrieve his lost property. Unfortunately, I can only give this hostel 2 stars due to the condition of the rooms, which didn’t match the description. While I completely understand that at just £0.80 per night you can’t expect luxury, the basic standards of cleanliness and safety shouldn’t be compromised. The main issues we encountered were: • Bed Bugs: One of our friends found bed bugs on his bed after waking up—clearly not ideal. • Damp Conditions: The room was extremely damp, and the beds felt almost wet to the touch . • Exposed Electrical Wiring: In the bathroom, there was a section of exposed wiring next to the light socket, which is a serious concern especially in a bathroom. •Hostelworld Cancellation: Upon letting the staff know about the situation with the Bed Bugs, no corrective action was taken and best way to describe it “Shaken off” as an issue, upon checking HostelWorld our booking was “Cancelled” despite staying 1 night so we were unable to leave a review. This Hostel has so much potential if the above issues are corrected!

Firstly, booking cancelled on hostel world so can’t leave review, that fact alone says a lot. So, for less than a £1 a night you can’t really expect the best, but this shouldn’t mean it’s the worst. The rooms are damp, it smells damp and feels it, and, toilet had exposed wires right next to the switch. The beds are damp and feel moist. The pictures they show online are quite deceiving and when we woke in the morning after our first night, there were bed bugs. When the staff were informed, we were told more or less too bad and offered a coffee. Some of the staff were nice and helpful, but sadly that can’t outweigh the state of the place, and the fact they remove bookings on hostel world and have fake reviews on it.

This has been one of my worst hostel experiences in my 5 months of travelling SE Asia. The rooms were damp, dirty and smelled of mould. The bathroom had exposed wiring and showers did not properly heat up. For less than £1 per night I don’t expect much but the standards here were just appalling. We had originally booked 1 night and planned to stay for 2 nights but decided not to extent after discovering bed bugs the first morning, after informing the staff we were told that the rooms had recently been cleaned so it was unlikely (even after being shown a clear picture of a bedbug I had taken that morning) and at best they offered a free coffee. I understand any hostel can have issues with bedbugs but how they handle the issue after being informed by guests really sets the good from the bad and for the Dalat Family hostel they have failed massively. If you stay here in the near future you should inspect the bedding thoroughly before deciding to stay the night. Staff were friendly enough upon check in and did help us arrange one of the local activities for the daytime but how they dealt with the issues above left a bad image overall. The common area and facilities were decent and food was quite nice. We had booked on Hostel-world and had attempted to leave a review on there but discovered our booking had been cancelled after check out to prevent us leaving any honest reviews. This had been noted by several other reviews seen on here and is awful practice which really shows the standards you can expect.

Overall the hostel was great however the morning I left I found bed bugs crawling on my sheets which explained all the bites I had (I thought it was from doing a hike) I suppose you get what you pay for in the 12 bed dorm. The staff are great, the food is good and the facilities are decent!

  9. Confirmed Hostelworld

The hostel is good for the cheap price but unfortunately our room was very smelly and my bed had bed bugs👎🏼 also wasn’t the warmest welcome upon arrival felt a bit eerie, but other than that the staff are so kind and happy. Food is so good too.

Do not stay here! I don’t know how this place has so many good reviews, actually I do, if they think your going to leave a bad/negative review they will cancel your booking after you check out so a review cannot be left! This happened to my friend, when she questioned it with them they said ‘oh it’s a problem the site end we didn’t do it!’ I left hostel after a few hours as it was filthy! Pillows black with mould, and the final straw was bed bugs all over the bed and curtains

  12. Confirmed Hostelworld

Cleanliness was the main issue, our room was very mouldy causing myself and other people in our group problems with breathing, we considered asking to move room but other rooms supposedly had bed bugs according to 2 other travellers. The door didn’t lock so people could just walk into the dorm from the street. Staff were overly pushy to sell their tours which was slightly uncomfortable and my stay was cancelled after leaving I assume to make writing a review more challenging.

  13. Confirmed Hostelworld

Staff were lovely and very helpful. The family dinner is great value for money and a good way to be sociable. However, the beds stunk of sweat and we now have bites all over our legs ( unsure if they’re bed bugs but deffo not mozzie bites). Guess it’s what you get for 97p a night!

Vibe Analysis

Family dinner is the clearest reason to look at Dalat Family Hostel: it is cheap, filling, sociable, and can turn the place into an easy meet-people setup. The staff can be warm and helpful, with activity help, food, and motorbike rental all part of the practical backpacker orbit. This is more party hostel than quiet crash pad. Expect a lively, budget-first place with music, pub-crawl energy, and a rooftop/social-area focus. The location is not central, though it is near Bao Dai Palace and Crazy House and sits on the road toward Tuyen Lam Lake. The rooms are the tradeoff, and it is a big one. Damp, mold smell, weak cleanliness, run-down bathrooms, and uncomfortable beds are recurring problems, especially in private rooms and basement-style spaces. Treat the low price as part of the deal, not a loophole in physics.
