Bali Fab Dive Center is most clearly a dive-first Amed base: the dive school is on site, Open Water training may include the first three nights, and dive days may include free accommodation. That setup makes it practical for travelers who want to spend money on underwater time instead of a polished hostel bed. The best version of the place is simple and calm, with a pool, garden, balcony or terrace spaces, hammocks, scooter and snorkel gear rental, and easy access to dives or snorkel eco tours. It can feel friendly and social when the dive crowd is around, especially for French speakers and people joining the water activities. The cheap rooms are basic, and quality seems uneven between dorms. Expect a functional budget place rather than a modern hostel: AC may be weak or broken, plugs and lockers can be limited, beds may lack curtains, and bathrooms can range from okay to grimy. The location works better with a scooter; Amed Beach and Jemeluk can feel awkward without one.
