Bed bug reports

Location is great along the main strip and beach. The location is spacious and has a nice open air vibe. The facilities and cleanliness was well put until I ran into a bed bug. Hope they address the issue before it becomes a bigger issue..

The property itself is really big and has a pool, outdoor area, rooftop and bar area. That’s what we liked. Unfortunately the pool was so dirty, we did not even wanted to go inside. A friend of mine stayed at Bonita as well and someone had a poo in the dorm and in front of it. It hasn’t been cleaned until afternoon the next day. This friend also had bed bugs.

Vibe Analysis
Bonita Escondida is a high-energy La Punta hostel built around the pool, bar, daily events, and a young party crowd. It works best for solo travelers who want easy social momentum, nights out, and a place where the staff and volunteers can make the place feel lively fast. Mama's Kitchen gives the hostel a useful little food anchor for breakfast and lunch, with a casual home-cooked feel rather than just another bar snack setup. The pool is a major daytime hangout, and the hostel can shift from lazy heat escape to pre-night-out launchpad pretty quickly. Rooms can be quieter than the party setup suggests, and beds are often a plus, with big dorm beds, curtains, sockets, lockers, or ledges in at least some setups. The location is a strong part of the deal: close to La Punta, the beach, food, shops, and the local night circuit. This is not the pick for a polished, calm, work-friendly hostel. The fun is real, but so are the rough edges: AC timing and power cuts can matter in Puerto heat, bathrooms and kitchen areas can feel tired, and the social scene can sometimes tilt cliquey instead of open.
Signals to check
- Best for party-focused travelers and younger social energy, not early nights or a quiet reset.
- AC may run only at night, and outages can make rooms hot.
- Bathrooms, showers, kitchen gear, and dorm maintenance can be inconsistent.
- Dorm doors may not lock, outside people may access social areas, and bag checks for outside alcohol can feel intrusive.
- Staff and volunteers can be warm and helpful, but the vibe can also feel cliquey or poorly managed.
