A chef cooks here, making food from scratch and happy to prepare meals to your taste. Breakfast can be a spread of homemade bread, soups, eggs, fruits, and pancakes, and the coffee is excellent before you head out for the day. The bar is often open. If eating well is a priority, this is the main reason to pick Yambi. The other anchor is the garden: birds, butterflies, plants, and outdoor seating areas that make the place feel like a quiet retreat away from the city bustle. Rooms tend to be comfortable and nicely decorated, with at least one beautiful private room at a reasonable rate, and the lobby has books and CDs to browse. Staff are warm, helpful, and generous with recommendations for getting around Kigali, and they can arrange airport pickup. Early arrivals can be let into rooms to nap, and cleaning happens often, sometimes multiple times a day. There is security on site. The big practical catch is location. Yambi sits well outside central Kigali, roughly a 30-minute ride, and it is hard to reach without local cash.
