Aigle d'Or

Aigle d'Or is a nearly 200-year-old property in Thiers, close to the historic center and the cutlery museum, with free public parking nearby. Its clearest personality is the old building itself: wood stairs, period rooms, and a dining room with real historic character. This is not a polished modern hostel. The place can feel vintage in the literal sense, with narrow rooms, small bathrooms, uneven upkeep, weak sound insulation, patchy Wi-Fi, no lift, and hot-water or shower controls that may test your patience. Some rooms are clean and comfortable with good bedding; others have had serious maintenance and cleanliness problems. Food is a split signal. At its best, dinner can be genuinely good, with well-cooked dishes and a cozy restaurant room. At its worst, breakfast has been basic or stale, and restaurant service has sometimes been unavailable, including periods of closure. The welcome can be warm, attentive, and helpful, but service is inconsistent enough to matter.
