BED BUGS BEWARE. Lovely communal area with gorgeous sunset views every day and staff are nice and tried to help us with our problems. Unfortunately the rooms and bathrooms are not up to scratch. When we arrived to our room it was a run down hut with holes in the roof and a bees nest in the side of the door. The room is tiny with nowhere to put your things and the floor is dirty. The staff offered us another room for the night due to the bees but when we returned the following night having moved our stuff in there midday we discovered bed bugs on the towel and bedding. We removed our things and got offered another room. We then discovered bed bugs in that room as well. There were so many we saw them crawling around outside the room. We got refunded for 2 nights but lost the Hostelworld deposit. We were disappointed that they didn’t offer anything complimentary and went on to charge us for a couple of beers we had had. We had to pay to get all of our clothes washed and the only hotel that was available at short notice was a lot more expensive. It ruined the time in Minca and left us feeling really upset as the issue will follow us round Colombia.

Negatives: bed bugs in the bed!! We didn't notice the first night, but the next day my legs were covered by bites and we saw bugs in the bed and on our clothes. We told reception and they told us the hostel was full so we had to sleep in the bar's hammacs. Thankfully they refunded it the 2nd night and offered us free breakfast. Another negative was the loudness of the cicadas, which are known to be the loudest insect in the world. They were going off all night and forced me to sleep with earplugs. Positive: nice view, good vibes at the bar with a DJ the first night and a jazz band the second night. I see a lot of people complaining in the reviews about the loud music but to be honest I didn't find it bad, especially because it ended at 10pm the first night and 9pm the second night. However, as I said above, the cicadas are insanely loud all night, you can even hear them over the music when there is a concert at the bar. Conclusion: Beware of bed bugs, that was really the main downside for me. But for the rest, remember that this is a hostel in the middle of the jungle! Yes the showers have cold water only and yes there are ants in the toilets. That's part of why people come to Minca. If you want a 5 star hotel, this won't be for you.

I'll be brief, otherwise I'll go on for too long. Hike up here once, have a beer at the top and watch the sunset - simply stunning. I'll give this place that! Other than that, this place is worthless. The accommodation is in a dire state of repair, bed bugs reported by many, toilets unusable with ants crawling up inside, and showers so cold that you're only able to take one during the hot hours of the day but not at night. If you do stay here and need WiFi, it is only usable at the reception area.

great place to chill, with an amazing view, friendly staff. the only issue was the bed bugs and the laundry took too long and wasnt done properly.

This was my first/only hostel to have bed bugs in 20 years of traveling off and on. So that was a drag. They gave me a free breakfast and moved me to a different private. I was in Castillo, right above the main area. Negatives - Bed bugs are a drag. Means I have to wash the heck out of my stuff and hope I didn’t bring any home. This hostel feels like it was semi recently placed/cut right into the woods, so there are a lot of bugs in general. It’s right directly in the woods. Because it is directly in the woods, it does mean you’re sort of breathing that wet muddy air after it rains. I got a cold right after leaving. Maybe unrelated. The main area near check in is super low, I think if you’re over 5’ 10” ish you have to duck when you walk around or hit your head, which is a bit of a drag. Feels like it could have been designed better. The hike to get up there is pretty tiring and the rocks are somewhat slippery (not sure why they put slippery white river rocks in the cement path). People mostly keep to themselves and hang out on their phones a lot of the time. Music was meh. Same old old playlists over and over. My first room (with the bugs) didn’t really close and my 2nd didn’t really lock either. I think you just have to trust that your stuff will probably be ok. The 2nd room had a locking gate but anyone could have hopped over it and gotten to my stuff My sheet was in rough shape in the first room as well. Positives - The view is simply incredible. You can see 60 miles out into the Caribbean. Absolutely stunning. The whole facility is huge and quite well done. I mean, it’s got a lot of janky construction on the buildings but the overall it’s a really cool space. It's huge. The front desk women were super friendly. Nice having meals/beers/etc right there, albeit very spendy. Coworking space has decent wifi which is a huge plus.

Big recommendation, especially for the view point. The vibe is so chilled, the area is huge and beautiful. Unfortunately, I got bed bugs on my second night. The staff helped me well there though.

I stayed in the hammock which I think is pretty expensive for just a hammock. I heard the rooms have bed bugs! Quite a hike up with all your stuff but worth the view, and overall good vibes

A place for relaxation and enjoy. When we arrived we were a little sceptical because we had read a review about bed bugs. The whole team - espacially jorge and katie - were super responsive to our concerns, checked everything and confirmed that they’ve cleaned everything properly. The sunset, the crew and the food made our experience incredible. The Los Panos and Cerro Kennedy hikes are also highly recommended. Would love to go back again.

Only place I’ve been in 8 months with bed bugs in the private room Bosque.

To sum up: bed bugs, food poisoning and bad facilities. We stayed in the dorms and then moved to a private room just above reception. It would have been the same as sleeping on the couch in front of the reception desk in terms of comfort and noise levels. Totally overpriced for what it is. On top of it, we got food poisoning from the falafel burger (which did taste somewhat sour but we were hungry and it was too late to go downtown for other food - big mistake). On one of my trips to the toilet at around 4AM next morning I noticed the bedbugs... After telling the management they seemed to take it seriously, however, I see previous reviews saying the same and yet the bedbug problem in this specific room seems to be very persistent. However, telling the management that the food made us sick was met with disbelief and denial. There was no physical proof (like with the pictures of the bed bugs). The only positive point was that we didn't have to pay for the food.. but we got to use the budget for medicine yeyy! But even if it wasn't for the 4AM toilet runs we still wouldn't have been able to get any sleep after around 5AM when the people for the bird watching tour wake up and gather just below the room to have breakfast and socialise before the tour. Every. Single. Day. Another really disappointing aspect of our stay was the fake club atmosphere they try to create while blasting extremely loud music in all locations. Every single guest we talked to was unhappy because they were bothered by the loud music which made conversations in larger groups than 2 ppl all but impossible. Thank god for the few power outages when we finally got to enjoy the view in peace. Around 10:30PM we politely asked until what time is the music on, to which the answer was "until now" and they stopped the music. So far so good but do people need to remind you to switch it off?! What if we hadn't asked? The view is nice, but that's all about it. There were people from different hostels coming for sunset and this seems enough to me. Wouldn't pay a single dime to stay or eat there.

bed bugs, food poisoning and bad facilities. I've rarely been so disappointed by a hostel. the "private" room above reception is a joke. You are better off sleeping on the couch in front of the reception desk in terms of comfort and noise levels. you hear evey single word that has been said in in the main area and that's only then you get over the all-day blasting music. After getting food poisoning at their restaurant I was lucky enough on my nightly toilet visits to discover bed bugs...

WARNING!!! Extremely unserious business do not book a hostel stay here!!! We booked 2 nights at Casa Loma in the room El Mirador. We were excited when we got to the hostel thinking we were in for an extraordinary experience. That was the opposite of what we got! The view was amazing but that’s about it. The room was filled with insects and lizards but that is what you sign up for when you book a stay in the jungle so of course that was no problem. The problem began when we 2 hours after arrival found BED BUGS in the bed. Bed bugs is not from the jungle and is just a type of pest!!! We notified the night receptionist who was very helpful and took the matter very seriously. We were given the choice of staying or getting our money back. Since we wanted to escape the bed bugs we chose the option of leaving and getting our money back. What we did not know was that we would NEVER BE GETTING OUR MONEY BACK!!!! The receptionist asked if we wanted the money back in cash or via transfer and to which we answered that we wanted it back as fast possible. The receptionist said the fastest way would be if we just came back one or two days later and picked up cash since he could not give us cash immediately (for some reason?) so we agreed to that. I however got so sick after that that I was not able to travel for a few days which meant I could not get on a bus for hours to go pick up the money. I then notified Casa Loma that I would not be able to come back and pick up the cash to which Casa Loma then responded and assured me that it was of course no problem and that they would instead transfer the money back to my account. That was a lie!!!! That was now 5 weeks ago!! I have tried to contact Casa Loma a few times since then but they have only responded once and only with excuses about why the payment has not been made yet. And since October 14th they have not responded to any of my messages!!!! Bed bugs and they do not give you your money back and then they stop responding DO NOT STAY AT THIS UNSERIOUS BUSINESS Give me back my money!!!! I will gladly take this review down in exchange for my money!!!

You are paying for the view here and not much more. Service was poor - I was served food that was ice cold in the middle, the website says our booking included breakfast then got told it didn’t and there was rarely ever drinking water available, all without an explanation or even apology. There are also dogs running around outside the rooms barking at 5am every morning. Oh and there’s serious bed bugs…

Loved my stay at Casa Loma. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. The ambience was great. But upon checking the mirror when I returned home, I’m pretty sure I have bed bug bites :( Be forewarned

bed bugs have eaten me during the night no ventilator in the room despite very high / unbearable temperature and staff did not provide one after asking staff friendly but not very present Nice views but hard to reach ( 10 minutes walk with strenuous stairs) Not suited for the more than 40´´s : it has the vibe of a hostel but the price of a hotel

  20. Confirmed Hostelworld

Best view of the sunset in Minca. Bar area is a great place to relax in and meet people. However no drinking water which isn’t great at the top of those stairs! Overall the hostel seemed very clean but unfortunately I was ravaged by what appears to be bed bug bites. I hadn’t been bitten in 5 weeks travelling but one night here and my body is covered in them.

We slept in a dorm and the beds had mosquito nets. However, the corners of these nets were very dirty. Because we arrived late, we couldn't do anything about it. The next day I was covered in bumps. That evening we discovered that there were bed bugs in the mosquito nets!! The hostel showed little understanding… I am very disappointed that the nets and beds were not clean before new guests sleep in the beds. It was obvious that these were dirty. So make sure your room is clean before your stay!!!
