It’s okay. A super big hostel so if you like that and you are lucky with the people you can have a good time. My boyfriend ended up with 20 bedbug bites though.

Beware BEDBUGS!!! Currently sitting with an Australian women who has been bitten by bedbugs. Doesn’t seem to be a once off occasion as they “had” fumigated two weeks ago. Also the staff are rude! The breakfast consists of weak coffee and bread + jam/common areas are dirty/staff don’t enforce a noise curfew at night while guests are trying to sleep. Isn’t worth the money you pay. I would highly recommend hostal providencia over this sorry excuse of a hostal. Don’t know why I didn’t go back to hostal providencia

La chimba... more like la chim-bugs! Bed bugs and filthy rooms. Lady at the front desk is rude and not helpful. Best thing is the location but besides that this place is terrible. The room smelt like farts and had no natural light! The kitchen is filthy and the breakfast is laughable! Has to sleep with a shirt one pillow because it was so filthy. The place could use some new sheets and some lovin!

Unhygienic hostel. The bathrooms aren't cleaned, the sheets aren't changed and has bed-bugs. They don't bother cleaning common area or patio for days. Stay here if you don't care about hygiene and only interested in partying/hanging out at hostel in Santiago.

If you like rude American women, bed bugs, cold showers and workers who try and sell you angel dust, by all means- stay here! Hostel was absolutely disgusting. Everyone who worked there was rude unless they were trying to sleep with you. Rooms looked like something from a 2000s meth lab. Would rather sleep on the streets of Santiago than step foot in this place again. Thanks! For nothing!!!!

Vibe Analysis
La Chimba is a big, scruffy Bellavista hostel for travelers who want Santiago nightlife within grabbing distance and do not mind rough edges. At its best it has a lively backpacker pulse: plenty of common corners, bar-and-games energy, sometimes-lovely staff and volunteers, and a crowd that can make it easy to meet people when the place is switched on. The experience is high variance. It can feel fun, social, and convenient; it can also feel empty, disorganized, or hard to connect in because the building is spread out and groups sometimes keep to themselves. Treat it as a party-area base with potential, not a predictable comfort pick. Come for Bellavista bars, casual common-space hangs, pool-table/pub-crawl type nights, and a messy young-hostel atmosphere. Skip it if you need sleep, clean bathrooms, consistent hot water, quiet work space, or a low-stress safety setup.
Signals to check
- Very loud nights are a core tradeoff. Music from the hostel and nearby clubs can run until 3-4am, especially around rooms above or near reception/bar.
- Cleanliness and maintenance are inconsistent, especially bathrooms, bedding, kitchens, and older room fixtures.
- Keep valuables close and use night-street caution: stolen phones, locked-room/locker theft, and unsafe-feeling Bellavista nights can be real risks.
- Hot water and room temperature can be unreliable: cold showers, cold rooms in cooler weather, and hot/no-AC rooms are all possible.
