BEDBUGS!! My first impression of this hostel was so nice, it is all kept super clean and tidy, the pool area is nice, the kitchen is lovely. However I got bitten awfully the 2 nights I stayed here and on the morning of my checkout I found 2 bed bugs in my bed (room 42 bed 4) 😭 the staff said they are certified against bed bugs so they must have come in with a traveller but that doesn't change the fact they are in the room!! No real social atmosphere here either for solo travellers.

Had bedbugs in the room. Staff was super accommodating and let me refund and leave.

Vibe Analysis
El Shaddai feels like a simple, practical Foz do Iguacu base more than a built-in backpacker social machine. The strongest pattern is location plus helpful humans: a central spot with restaurants, shops, urban transport, the bus terminal, falls logistics, and Paraguay runs within reach, backed by staff who are repeatedly described as kind, attentive, and useful for planning. Breakfast is a real asset here: generous, complete, fresh, and properly useful before a day of waterfalls, with fruit, juices, eggs, cold cuts, cakes, local breads, coffee, tea, and a sandwich press in the mix. The good version of this place is clean, organized, simple but functional, with practical bits like luggage storage, parking, a shared kitchen or food-warming space, a pool area, hot showers, and air conditioning. Socially, calibrate. There are some common-space pieces, but the overall shape is more pousada or guesthouse than party hostel. It looks best for travelers who want a decent-value, central, staff-forward base for waterfalls and short Foz missions. Solo travelers who need instant crew energy may find the social signal low.
Signals to check
- Social energy can be low; treat this more as a practical Foz base than a meet-everyone hostel.
- Some dorms, rooms, and bathrooms can be tight or awkward.
- Sound insulation is weak in some rooms, especially near reception, bathrooms, or outside noise.
- Room comfort and maintenance are uneven, including damp or cold rooms, mold smell, shower issues, leaks, or temporary water problems.
- Breakfast starts at 7:00, which can clash with early tour pickups.
- One January 2026 dorm bedbug complaint exists; check bedding on arrival.
