Explain how it works
We compare every 5★ review's word count against the global distribution. Hostels where unusually many top-rated reviews are suspiciously short — way under the typical length — start to look like the staff (or a boost-my-listing service) is padding the score with throwaway praise.
The detector flags reviews that are both top-rated and below a length threshold, then estimates how many of them statistically shouldn't exist. For this hostel we scanned 3468 top-rated reviews and 1% were suspiciously short.
Length z-score: 19.13. A z-score measures how far this hostel's distribution of 5★ review lengths sits from the global average, in standard deviations. 0 = perfectly typical. 1–2 = slightly unusual but within normal noise. 3–5 = strongly anomalous. Anything 10+ means the pattern is so far from the global norm that it's effectively impossible to get there organically.
This is a heuristic, not a verdict — it surfaces hostels worth a second look, not proof of fraud. Read the actual reviews below and judge for yourself.

Pleasant ambiance. But lacks in cleanliness. A bit overhyped place and based on all the hostel experiences wasn’t worth the money and lacked many facilities. Most of the reviews are paid.

money and time. I strongly advise everyone to stay away and not trust the photos or rating
Worst Stay Ever – Completely Misleading and Disgusting This was honestly one of the worst stays I have ever experienced. The property is nothing like what is shown in the photos. The pictures are completely misleading and create a false impression. The rooms were extremely dirty and poorly maintained. The beds were in a horrible, unhygienic condition — it felt unsafe to even sleep on them. Basic cleanliness standards were clearly not followed at all. The entire place felt neglected, cheap, and far below even the lowest expectations. There was no proper maintenance, and everything looked worn out and dirty. This property is a complete waste of money and time. I strongly advise everyone to stay away and not trust the photos or ratings. Avoid this place at all costs.

refund for unutilised days. This review
Senior management (Mr. Abhishek - Area Manager) wants to ensure this place closes down! Instead of making sure the hostel amenities are conducive to the requirements of the guests, they only focus on harassing single guests. Dirty pillows with mold, small bathrooms that one can’t even comfortably stand in, very small lockers and no lockers to keep your luggage. Pictures attached for reference. The junior staff handling the hostel were courteous and polite, special shout out to Mr. Harshil for making me feel welcomed and comfortable. The main disgrace about the place is Mr. Abhishek (Area Manager) who is there to ensure guests are harassed and misbehaved with enough for them to leave the hostel without refund for unutilised days. This review comes after facing misbehaviour on the part of Mr. Abhishek whose job is to ensure the hostel runs smoothly and guests are made comfortable, but he goes beyond his job to make single female guests uncomfortable with him barging into the hostel dormitory occupied by only 1 (female) guest at 11 PM without even seeking permission to enter. He doesn’t bother about the fact that the guest is not feeling well and goes on to use harsh language and demeanour, enough to make a single female guest feel unsafe enough for her to take the step of leaving the very next morning. He had the audacity to ask me to leave the hostel at 11 PM when he is told by me that his behaviour is making me uncomfortable, and that he should leave the dormitory room where I was staying alone. If you want a good stay in Goa, definitely stay away from this place. Now they might say I was never a guest at their hostel to deny the ordeal I faced at this hostel, but I have proof that I stayed there. So they can come up with their excuses if they so wish.

fake reviews
Very small and shady dorm rooms. Location is not good as well. Worst case was when they force you to put good fake reviews.

Pressure to leave a review
asked for my phone and started writing a review
The property is run by two people. I think they are brother and sister. It was a horrible experience for us at Woopers Palolem, Goa. We went there early in the morning to book a room. When we asked them to show us the room, they insisted that we first complete the check-in process and make the payment, only then would they show us the room. When we finally entered the room, it had such a strong, unpleasant smell that we couldn't stay for more than 10 minutes. We immediately opened the door and windows. Since we had been traveling since the previous day, we just freshened up there and left immediately. Later, when we asked them for a refund, they refused, stating that they do not provide refunds. We accepted that the refund for that day's booking wouldn't be possible, but we requested a refund for the next day's booking. They declined that request as well. Finally, when we were checking out, I informed them that we were leaving. They didn’t even ask why we were checking out or if there was anything they could do to assist us. Instead, they asked for my phone and started writing a review on my behalf. I quickly snatched my phone back and told them I would write it myself.
