Vibe Analysis
A sunny common room with a book bar gives Tribes Upscale Hostel a useful little work-and-chill zone, not just a bunk-and-bath setup. The hostel is small, new-feeling, and in a strong Rhodes location near the Old Town, Mandraki Harbour, the centre, shops, the beach, and the central bus station. The setup leans modern and simple: dorms may have air conditioning, personal sockets, personal lights, and lockers, with female-only dorms available. Beds and mattresses can be comfortable, and the common areas can feel cozy for meeting other travelers. The building has a renovated, historic feel in places, though parts of the hostel have also felt unfinished. This is not a full-service hostel. Check-in may be self-managed through a lockbox, payment may happen remotely, and staff presence can be limited. There is no real kitchen, no fridge, and facilities may be closer to bed-and-bath basics than a social hostel with lots of extras.
Signals to check
- Security is a real caveat: room doors may not lock, the front door has been left open, and the lockbox process has failed before.
- Bathroom setup can be uneven, with toilet or shower doors that may not lock properly and occasional supply or cleanliness problems.
- Some bunks are very tall and may lack safety rails, and at least one female-only booking ended up with a man in the room.
- Wi-Fi may work mainly in the lounge rather than the rooms.
