Not the most social (offseason) and the bed I was in had bedbugs, informed staff and checked out they said they were gonna sanitize. Otherwise a beautiful hostel and nice kitchens.

Unfortunately, got attacked by bed bugs in Room 11. I was itchy all night, thinking maybe it was a mosquito as I felt a bump form on my arm (it happens). But later, seeing my back in the mirror, I know for a fact that it was not just a mosquito. I was worried before staying here seeing the relatively recent reviews of bed bugs, which to the hostel's credit, seemed to have been addressed. Unfortunately, it looks like other rooms now have a bed bug problem, including the one I stayed in. Like the other reviews, however, the hostel was otherwise clean and semi-social. Staff was friendly and helpful (couldn't address the bed bug problem with them as the bumps appeared the day in which I checked out). I want to be fair with the review, but for me personally, bed bugs aren't just the temporary irritation of the bites, but the longer-term psychological mess of always wondering if you are now carrying even just one bed bug with you back home. :(

BEDBUG ALERT room 10 It's a great hostel. And location was convenient. Tho it's not in the safest areas in BA but i Had no problems Even coming back late. The only issues i Had were: 1. I was initially allocated a room downstairs i think it was room 10 if i remembered correctly. I was just putting down my stuff but i noticed a bug moving on the bed curtain. I caught it and it turned out to be a bedbug. I was so scared and immediately i took it to the front desk requesting for some solutions. They were apologetic and offered to move me to another room also doing my Laundry in case of infestation. Luckily i Haven't out anything on the bed nor lied on the bed yet so i just moved room. Initially was very worried still that the new room May have it too but luckily it wasn't the case. 2. The mattress was not very Comfy. It was Initially but due to flying 30+hrs to get here, i was super knackered so i slept for 16hrs i suppose. And i wokeup with back pain. I think it's from the mattress. Overall Staff were very nice. Its not a super social hostel but there are areas to hang out. It was December so didn't feel too hot with the windows open. And i think there was ac in my room.

There was an issue with bed bugs in the room during my stay, but the owner handled the situation very professionally and closed the room to fumigate it.

BEDBUGS!!!! CHINCHES !!! I got bedbugs staying for three nights. The absolute worst, I just lived one of my nightmare. HORRIBLE. Please, please to you a favour and stay somewhere else, I’ve also heard other bad stories about this hostel ! I’ve stayed at MONS and it’s 100x better. So on the first night I didn’t see anything on the bed because I do check every time and I didn’t see anything. The second morning I woke up with weird bites on my hand so I went to the reception to show them and they say they were probably only mosquitoes’. So i went on with my day but I then noticed that I had way more than what I just saw when waking up. Latter that day I went back to my bed and checked again, that’s when I found one!!! I saw it with my own eyes a bedbug!!! Took a picture went over to the front desk. They weren’t talking this too seriously. They gave me money so I could buy a cream to reduce the itching. I ask for a refund for the night which they gave me, ask them to wash my clothes but I was too imprudent because you should wash EVERYTHING and I thought clothes were just fine but no because onto the next night I got bitten again! Of course I changed of hostel for the last night I had in Buenos Aires because it was getting very bad. They should have told me to buy a new set of clothes while they were decontaminating the room and washing my clothes, bags, shoes and everything but no. They only changed the sheets. That’s it. Someone could have slept in this bed after me leaving and getting the bedbugs. I was on room 10, only females. Had to wash everything the next day in my new hostel, shoes, bags, clothes, EVERYTHING it costs me 50$ USD. I mean it was worth it because I dont have them anymore but a nightmare that no one wants to live when travelling. DO NOT STAY THERE.

They didn’t let the air conditioner run for longer than 2h at a time so you would wake up sweating. For myself and another staying in a separate room, bed bugs… They did let me change beds, compensate me for caladryl (antihistamine cream) and wash my clothes.” To rectify the issue for me.

We had a bad experience mainly due to two reasons. First, there was a loud karaoke party going on from 11 pm to 3am which made it impossible to sleep (and we just arrived from a 20 hour trip from Barcelona). And secondly, there was bed bugs in our bunk beds which meant we had to change rooms. The hostel is loud at night because the walls are thin. The kitchen is good and the common area too.

This is one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed and it’s such a shame I have to write this BUT I got bedbugs. They need to take care of this problem professionally as it’s one of the worst things to happen to a traveler. Apart from this, everything about the hostel is just exceptional. If I didn’t have the bedbugs m rating would be 10/10.

The hostel was great but there were bed bugs! Be careful when you go. It was in room 6! They cleaned and putted product against it so it might be gone but check when you leave that you don't have pimple when you leave. They havn't made me a discount even if I had bugs in my room

BEWARE - BED BUGS in room 6! Check the mattresses and bunks before you get into a bed here. There are past Google reviews of similar complaints. When I informed the front desk they seemed not bothered as if this is common for them. I would recommend not to stay here!

The hotel needs to shutdown for at least one day at least and do a complete dissatisfaction to remove bed bugs... I have been beaten badly by them no matter which room I went. The hotel reimbursed me for one night though and seem to be aware of this major problem they have. The staff however are very friendly and are hard working people.

No meu dia de checkout encontrei um percevejo na cama. Comuniquei ao staff e eles foram bastante solicitos e disseram que passariam veneno na cama.

It's a nice hostel in a nice location. Huge building with renovated facilities. BUT i caught bed bugs while I was here which sucks because it was the day before I was supposed to fly home so now there is risk in bringing it home with me. When I told the hostel about it, they didn't really seem to care and just said "it happens a lot". I hope they will actually do the proper cleaning for it, as they didn't seem to concerned to keep it controlled and prevent it from spreading to the other beds. I was in the 12-bed dorms. Be careful and check your sheets before sleeping here.

Vibe Analysis
Che Juan BA is a central Buenos Aires base with more hardware than mystery: big rooms, privacy-curtain bunks, personal lights and outlets, lockers, two useful kitchens, work/chill spaces, and enough common zones to either plug in or drift into conversation. The location is the main gravity field: around Lavalle, Corrientes, Florida, and the downtown transport/sightseeing grid, with a police station close by and plenty of city logistics nearby. The neighborhood mood is practical Microcentro, not a leafy hangout zone. Socially, it can click. Friendly staff, city tips, bar/game nights, tango or excursion-style activities, and integration nights give solo travelers chances to meet people without forcing a mega-party script. The vibe is not perfectly stable: some stays feel warm and easy, while others land quieter, more locally focused, or not very social for English speakers. The rooms are the pitch when everything is working: comfortable beds, curtains, storage, clean bedding, spacious layouts, and a renovated old-building look with a classic elevator cameo. It is best for travelers who want central BA, a semi-social setup, and a real kitchen/work base, with tolerance for a loud building, variable bathroom and temperature comfort, and some serious safety and payment tradeoffs.
Signals to check
- Bedbugs or insect bites can be a real risk, including room-specific cases in 2026. Check the bed before settling in and react fast if bites appear.
- There is a serious past dorm-safety complaint involving another guest and staff response. Solo travelers, especially women, should choose room type carefully and escalate discomfort immediately.
- Sleep can be fragile: common areas, street-facing rooms, the patio/bar, elevator noise, and other guests have disturbed rooms late into the night.
- Bathroom and room comfort can be uneven: too few bathrooms at busy times, wet floors or shower maintenance, and heating/AC issues show up across seasons.
- Confirm the exact total, currency, tax/VAT handling, and payment method before arrival; surprise charges and exchange-rate disputes have been a repeated problem.
