Qingdao Kaiyue International Hostel is a calm, clean base in Qingdao's old town, close to Zhongshanlu metro, the train station, St. Michael's Cathedral, Zhanqiao Pier, University Street, and city-walk routes. It sits in a preserved historic building, possibly an old church, so it has character without feeling noisy or chaotic. The attached restaurant/cafe is one of the clearest strengths: Western breakfasts, eggs Benedict, pizza, coffee, draft Tsingtao beer, and classic Western music are part of the stay. Brunch may be included, though portions can be small, and the restaurant can feel pricey for China. There may also be a restaurant discount. The library and upper-floor balcony are the standout spaces.
