Bed bug reports

Confirmed Google Maps
Not even worth 30€ -Black mould in the shower which smelled so strong it made us light headed -One shower and two toilets between 18 people ( and more as other rooms used our bathroom) -Was bitten several times by bed bugs which led to a visit to the doctor as the filthy facilities caused them to get infected. -Other guests (the men) smelled diabolical, I had to sleep with smelling salts shoved up my nose to stop me from vomiting. (I understand this is out of the hostel’s control however as a women, you may consider paying more for the women only rooms as sharing with men was horrifically disturbing and revolting) -The one and only shower was bust and water sprayed in every direction. -Used tooth brushes and dirty socks were in the bathroom for days without being claimed or thrown away by staff. -The bathroom had no hand soap which meant germs were being spread as no one was able to clean their hands. -cannot believe I payed actual money to stay here, it felt like I should be being paid for enduring such an unpleasant weekend.

Possible Google Maps

Vibe Analysis
Hostel 20 Bordeaux is a budget base in Bordeaux near the Chartrons side of town, close to the quays, tram links, bars, restaurants, and the Cite du Vin route. The best version of the place is simple: friendly reception, decent dorm beds with curtains in many bunks, air conditioning in at least some dorms, and a common area where it is easy enough to talk to people over cheap dinner. The family-style dinners are the clearest social hook here. They can make the hostel feel warmer than its worn-out building suggests, especially when the lobby is active with the kitchen, piano, foosball, board games, and 24-hour reception nearby. There is also a watched indoor bike rack in the lobby, which makes the place unusually practical for bikepackers. This is not a polished comfort pick. Bathrooms are the biggest weak spot: too few toilets and showers for the number of beds, old fixtures, missing soap, handheld or broken shower heads, mould, smells, and uneven cleaning all appear as real risks. Wi-Fi may only work well downstairs, lockers can be small or require your own padlock, and the room setup can feel disconnected from the common spaces. Choose it for price, location, friendly staff, a basic kitchen, and a casual dinner-table social scene. Skip it if bathroom condition, quiet sleep, strong Wi-Fi in bed, secure storage, or a reliably young backpacker crowd are non-negotiable.
Signals to check
- Bathrooms can be limited, old, mouldy, smelly, or short on soap.
- Wi-Fi may be usable mainly in the lobby or common area.
- Bring a padlock; lockers can be small, old, or unavailable in certain rooms.
- Mixed dorms may feel uncomfortable for solo women, and the crowd can skew older than a classic backpacker hostel.
- There are recurring problems around cleanliness, smells, pests, food security, refunds, and payment confusion.
