Explain how it works
We compare every 5★ review's word count against the global distribution. Hostels where unusually many top-rated reviews are suspiciously short — way under the typical length — start to look like the staff (or a boost-my-listing service) is padding the score with throwaway praise.
The detector flags reviews that are both top-rated and below a length threshold, then estimates how many of them statistically shouldn't exist. For this hostel we scanned 1171 top-rated reviews and 1% were suspiciously short.
Length z-score: 11.87. A z-score measures how far this hostel's distribution of 5★ review lengths sits from the global average, in standard deviations. 0 = perfectly typical. 1–2 = slightly unusual but within normal noise. 3–5 = strongly anomalous. Anything 10+ means the pattern is so far from the global norm that it's effectively impossible to get there organically.
This is a heuristic, not a verdict — it surfaces hostels worth a second look, not proof of fraud. Read the actual reviews below and judge for yourself.

paid review
I’m not exaggerating, and this definitely isn’t a paid review; I’m speaking purely from personal experience as a PG owner who understands how a room and its services should be. After traveling across India for two weeks and staying in various hotels, The Hosteller Amritsar turned out to be the best place I stayed at, hands down. The rooms were super cheap, neat, the staff were genuinely friendly, and the in-house kitchen was well-maintained. But what truly stood out was the online service system, which was simply outstanding. You can order food, request water can refills, get the Wi-Fi password, and even ask for hot water, all through their online system. Every request was handled quickly and efficiently. There were also small but thoughtful touches that made a big difference. Each bed has a small personal compartment above it, perfect for keeping your phone and charger safely while you rest. The rooms are fully air-conditioned, making the stay super comfortable regardless of the weather. They also provide branded shower gel, which is something you rarely see in budget stays. I had originally booked a 4-bed dormitory and ended up being the only one there; it was so peaceful and comfortable that I cancelled my other plans just to stay here longer. Even though my check-in was scheduled for noon, I arrived at 6 AM, and the staff kindly adjusted my booking and gave me one of the best rooms available. That kind of flexibility and care really makes a difference. The lounge area deserves a special mention; honestly, it felt even cooler than the rooms. There were games to play in the dining and lounge areas, which made the entire atmosphere more lively and fun. And to top it all off, I had forgotten my chain at the property. I called them two days later, and to my surprise, the staff had kept it safe and promptly sent it to my address. That level of trust and responsibility is rare to find. Overall, this was the best stay I’ve ever had. If you’re visiting Amritsar and looking for a clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully managed place, this is it.
