Vibe Analysis
A huge garden is the main hangout at Hostel La casa de Ricky: grass, plants, outdoor tables, sun, mountain views, and two dogs plus a very affectionate cat. It gives the place a quiet home-base feel before and after hiking days around Caraz. Ricky is central to the stay. He helps with hike logistics, tours, paragliding, local food tips, laundry, tea, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Meals may be available for an extra cost, and his cooking lands as a real part of the hostel's personality. Rooms and dorms seem clean, spacious, and comfortable, with comfy beds, lockers in the shared room, hot showers, good water pressure, useful bathroom shelves and hooks, fast WiFi, and a shared kitchen. One private room has a balcony. This is better for calm, animals, garden time, and trail planning than for a party setup. The hostel is a bit outside central Caraz, with an uphill walk or moto-taxi ride, and the dorm can get street noise from traffic and dogs.
Signals to check
- The hostel is outside the center, roughly a 10-15 minute walk for central Caraz in one account and around 10 minutes by moto-taxi in another.
- The walk is uphill, so a taxi or moto-taxi can be easier with luggage.
- The dorm sits close to a fairly busy road, so nighttime noise can be an issue.
- The hostel is still new and developing.
