MedioMundo Hostel
Bed bug reports

Confirmed Booking.com
I loved staying at this hostel, but I acquired 20+ bedbug bites from the right-upper bunk in the women’s dorm room. These are only slightly worse than mosquito bites for me, but the hostel might want to consider buying those thick plastic mattress covers that discourage bedbug infestation.

The location and staff were excellent. However, I had to cut my stay short because i found a BEDBUG on my bed-frame. The staff was nice enough to reimburse my final night, but i wouldn’t recommend staying until they have the infestation under control. They told me they had apparently fumigated the week before, and would shut down the dorm i was staying in, but when i came back to pick up my stuff there were people staying there (maybe because it was not possible for them to relocate them).

Vibe Analysis
There is a free arcade machine, which gives MedioMundo a rare little hangout hook beyond the usual hostel couch-and-kitchen setup. The common areas lean cozy rather than wild: a living room with a fireplace, books and instruments, plus a patio with a grill. The hostel sits near Parque Rodo and the Rambla, with markets, bars, restaurants and buses close by. Beds are a real strength here: privacy curtains, personal lights and plugs show up as part of the dorm setup, and the beds are often called comfortable. The kitchen is generally useful, laundry may be available, and breakfast can be a plus. The vibe is friendly, compact and a bit collaborative. Staff can be very helpful with local tips, tickets, directions and practical fixes, with Sebastian and Pablo standing out by name. This is better for a relaxed Montevideo base than a high-energy activity hostel.
Signals to check
- The hostel is small, and dorms can feel tight when full.
- There are only a few shared bathrooms, so waits can happen when showers are in use.
- Cleanliness can slip during busy periods, especially in bathrooms and the kitchen.
- Noise can carry from traffic, doors, the kitchen, common areas and evening activity.
- Private bathrooms may not be available, despite possible listing confusion.
- Storage and security are uneven: lockers can be small, and at least one ground-floor room may not lock properly.
- Organized social activities are limited, so solo social energy may depend on who is around.
- Past bedbug complaints appear in older material, so it is worth checking recent conditions directly before booking.
