Friendly staff Not a clena place, there's bugs in the room and I noticed bedbugs ..

Genuinely the worst hostel stay I’ve ever had. Was in room “2”. I paid extra for a private room hoping for a good night sleep. The room stank of sewage and human waste, no soundproofing at all - the traffic and common area sounded as if they were inside my room. When I left the hostel they cancelled my booking on “hostel world” so I’ve had to go through a procedure in order to make this review, I believe they do the same for everyone in bad rooms to keep their review scores high. Also bed bugs

Vibe Analysis

Monkeys sometimes visit the terrace, and that is the real odd little magic trick here: a cheap Monteverde base where the balcony, back deck, hammocks, and mountain views can make the place feel bigger than its basic rooms. Monteverde Monkey Hostel works best as a low-cost, social stop near Santa Elena, a short walk from town, supermarkets, restaurants, and buses. The strongest version of the place is simple: a cozy common room, games, occasional group dinners or hikes, and staff or owners who may help line up tours, shuttles, onward transit, and local activities. Breakfast has changed over time: sometimes pancakes and fruit, sometimes a do-it-yourself setup with eggs, toast, bananas, and coffee. The kitchen is useful and sometimes well stocked, but cleanliness is uneven. Rooms are basic; dorm beds may have curtains, some private rooms have ensuite bathrooms, and the whole setup is more rustic mountain lodge than polished hotel. Best for budget solo travelers who want a friendly, low-pressure place to meet others, play cards or Bananagrams, and use Monteverde as a launchpad. It is not the pick for anyone who needs consistent hot water, tight security, spotless bathrooms, quiet rooms, or hotel-level organization.
