I first thought the bites were from mosquitoes and tried to ignore them. However, the pattern looked similar to bed bug bites, so I politely asked the staff to check the bed and change the sheets. They said they would, but the sheets were not changed. I was repeatedly told it was “definitely mosquitoes.”Feeling uncomfortable, I asked if I could change rooms. The male staff became very defensive, insisted I follow him to check for bed bugs, and then told me to leave the hostel. I only wanted to

STAY AWAY BED BUGS!!!! I stayed here for three nights and on my final night I was eaten alive by bed bugs. When I reported it to reception they wanted nothing to do with it or know about it. They didn’t even ask what room or bed I was sleeping in I was offered no apology or compensation and the manager was continently not available to talk to. The doors of the room are always unlocked and the door is completely transparent which is right beside the communal pool so everyone can look in. AVOID!!!

Terrible hostel. Lockers can be accessed by lifting the mattress—many guests lost money and suspect staff involvement. The place is filthy, with rooms never cleaned during my 5-day stay. Some had bedbugs, and the toilets are rarely cleaned. Several guests got sick, possibly from rooftop drinks. Showers have large gaps in doors, compromising privacy—one guest was filmed while showering. Avoid this place!

Vibe Analysis
Sepeda Hostel is a social-but-chill Canggu base with a pool, rooftop bar, rice-field views, and a steady calendar of low-pressure ways to meet people. Morning yoga is a real part of the rhythm here, with other activities like pilates, meditation, Indonesian class, run club, game nights, karaoke, dinners, and nights out depending on the week. Pool volleyball and netball give the daytime scene an easy shared activity, so the place is not only about sitting around waiting for the evening. The rooftop cafe/bar, poolside area, board games, darts, and pool table create a lot of casual collision space, while the overall tone stays more sociable than hard-party. It can work well for solo travel, work days, and Canggu nights without having to sleep in the middle of the chaos. Rooms are generally clean, spacious, and comfortable, with good storage, curtains in dorms, air conditioning, and plenty of bathrooms. Private rooms can be strong here too. Food and drinks are available onsite and often land well for price and taste, though outside food rules may matter if you have allergies or a strict diet. The location is tucked away from central Canggu, close to rice fields and usually a short scooter or Grab ride from busier areas. That distance helps the calmer mood, but it is not ideal if you want to walk straight into the main beach-and-cafe circuit every day.
Signals to check
- Mixed dorms near the rooftop bar can get noise from chairs, doors, nearby rooms, and creaky beds.
- The location is a bit outside central Canggu; expect scooter or Grab rides for many outings.
- Outside food and drink may be restricted, and extra fees have included card charges, blankets, luggage storage, or activity costs.
- There have been isolated complaints about suspected bed bugs, plumbing smell in one private room, bathroom odor, water issues, and staff handling of problems.
- The social energy can vary; at quieter times activities may feel less lively.
