Playa Grande Surf Camp is small, rustic, and very beach-brained: a short walk to Playa Grande, a pool for the heat, hammocks and shade for recovery mode, a shared kitchen, morning coffee, surf boards and lessons, and a restaurant right at the front. It is built for the slower side of Tamarindo physics: surf, cook, talk, nap, repeat. The good stuff is the community layer. Volunteers and the owner come across as present and helpful, the setup makes it easy to meet other surfers and low-key travelers, and the place has a practical rhythm with surf lessons, tide and event updates, and a quieter beach than Tamarindo. The best fit is someone who wants beach access and a mellow camp feel more than a full-service hotel. It is still budget-rustic beach infrastructure, not frictionless luxury. Shared bathrooms, semi-open rooms, bugs, limited nearby shops, and room-position noise are all part of the deal depending on what you book. Come with supplies, earplugs, and a tolerance for sand-in-the-system living.
