Águeda Hostel & Friends

Unfortunately I slept in one of the dorm beds for one night and was bitten top to bottom by bed bugs. I only realised it the day after when I had already left that they were bed bug bites rather than mosquito bites. I immediately informed the hostel but they tried to say that the bed bugs must have been in my backpack two or three days earlier, but that’s not possible for me not to have been bitten until I stayed in their dorm. Having bed bugs are unfortunately possible and doesn’t necessarily mean that the hostel was negligent or unclean, but not taking action after I raised the issue with them does point towards negligence. I would suggest to avoid this hostel until they have sorted out this issue.

Bed bugs, bad pillows, noisy heater

I stayed in room Birra and ended up being eaten by bedbugs😩 The mattress was sagging too. Only one toilet/ bathroom for over 20 people? No staff at all which makes it kind of soulless

Bed Bugs. Straight after arrival, I performed my usual bed bug investigation. Found two bugs within 30 seconds. Took a video and showed it to the lady at the desk. She apologized and gave us our money back. We had assumed that they would do the right thing and notify the other guests. They did not. Later, I ran into a woman who was bunked right next to where we would have been (where the bugs were found) and she had not been told. She went back and asked for a refund so she could find a safe place to stay. The woman denied that they had bugs. When she told them that I had showed her the video proof they said that I must have brought them in. Impossible. I was in the establishment for all of 5 min and never let my belongings touch the ground. I know that bed bugs can be a big problem for places that welcome pilgrims but I would like to know that they take the matter seriously and at least notify the other guests who are in the immediate vicinity. It was discouraging to find them but even more upsetting that they seemed to have done nothing about it but try to deny it.
