The Secret Garden Quito is the giant rooftop-first Quito hostel: big, young, loud, and very wired into tours. The terrace is the main event, with city views, a bar/restaurant, family dinners, walking tours, and easy trip planning for Cotopaxi and other Ecuador side quests. If you want a busy base where other backpackers are already orbiting, it can work. Socially, it splits the room. There is real solo-traveler gravity: the rooftop, activities, lots of people, and a steady chance to meet someone before the next bus or volcano mission. It also has a commercial edge: the rooftop is not only for in-house guests, prices can bite even with discounts, and the building is short on calm guest-only space, a kitchen, or work-friendly corners. Book it for a short, high-energy Quito stop, not recovery sleep. Music, creaky beds, thin walls, open stairwells, and late hallway noise are constant tradeoffs, and some rooms are dark, damp, windowless, cold, or planted too close to the bar. The staff picture is mixed: some staff are genuinely helpful, but reception, service, upselling, reservation mistakes, and unequal treatment are recurring weak spots. Best fit: younger travelers who want the rooftop scene, a known launchpad, and can handle chaos.
