Vibe Analysis

Yoga mats, bands, and foam rollers give Drifter a useful little post-surf reset corner, which fits the place well: it is a Midigama hostel-cafe built for surfing days, laptop hours, and slow social evenings. Lazy Left and Lazy Right are close by, the beach is an easy walk, and scooters can be arranged nearby or through local contacts. The heart of the hostel is the cafe and common area. It has sofas, tables, an upstairs hangout space, free water refill, a basic kitchen, and plenty of room to work, chill, eat, and meet people. The coffee is a real strength here, with food that lands above basic hostel fare: bagels, avocado toast, smoothies, pain au chocolat, matcha, cappuccino, and higher-end cafe plates all fit the picture. Max and the team give the place a warm, helpful feel, with surf tips, restaurant ideas, airport transport help, late self check-in info, scooter help, and local guidance all part of the experience. The social side can be easy and friendly, with group activities and a relaxed backpacker-meets-surf crowd, though at times it can lean more digital-nomad or small-group than full-on backpacker chaos. Rooms range from pretty private rooms to dorms with big beds, lockers, mosquito nets in at least some bunks, towels in some setups, and daily cleaning in parts of the property. The tradeoff is comfort consistency: non-AC dorms and private rooms can get very hot, bathrooms can be basic or tired, and sink or drain smells have been a recurring problem.

Signals to check

  • Noise can affect sleep, especially from road traffic, nearby music, kitchen-side rooms, and common-area light or sound. 3 mentions Last mentioned Feb 15, 2026
  • The social scene is usually relaxed and friendly, but it may lean digital-nomad or small-group depending on timing. 3 mentions Last mentioned Feb 17, 2026
  • Payment may be easier with cash or PayPal, and value can feel weaker for basic rooms without AC. 3 mentions Last mentioned Feb 4, 2026
