Be aware - BED BUGS !!! Location was good and common areas nice, but the bathrooms were very run down and shabby, and we had bed bugs in our room!! Everyone in our room checked out early and we went to another hostel…

I found bedbugs in my bunk and I asked them to switch my room and wash my clothing. They charged me 1500 NPR for my clothes, and all of my lighter colored clothes came back with brown stains on them. Also, they immediately started moving new people into my original room, so it didn’t seem like they took the bed bug situation seriously. The garden was really nice and the people staying at the hostel were really friendly. Overall had a good time, but disappointed in how they handled the bed bugs.

Vibe Analysis
WanderThirst Hostels works best as a Kathmandu base for trekking prep: central enough for Thamel walks, but set around a covered outdoor garden restaurant that can feel calmer than the street outside. The restaurant is a real part of the stay, with low prices, solid food, and space to sit after the city buzz. A linked trekking and travel desk is built into the hostel. It can help with hikes, buses, jeeps, airport transfers, and luggage storage before or after a trek, which makes the place practical for Nepal plans that keep changing. The social side is mixed. The garden and restaurant can be friendly and lively, and this can turn into a fun backpacker base, but the spread-out layout, restaurant-only hangout setup, and lack of organized activities can also make it feel flat. Rooms range from cozy private rooms and spacious dorms to cramped, hot, outdated, or noisy ones, so the exact room matters here.
Signals to check
- Bathrooms and showers can be rough, with hot water that may be hard to control.
- Some dorms and private rooms are cramped, warm, musty, noisy, or short on storage.
- Lockers, bed curtains, fans, AC, and easy luggage space may not be reliable.
- Cleanliness is inconsistent, including past bed bug complaints and dirty bedding issues.
- The trekking desk is convenient, but prices and pressure around trip booking can be a concern.
