Bed Bugs!! I stayed in the 8-bed female dorm and woke up with the worst bites everywhere. In the beginning the refused to give me a refund because the other girls in my room didn’t complain (?). But thanks to the one receptionist I could get back at least one night out of 2 and they promised me a discount in a different che (idk if I rly get it) it’s low season but for me the atmosphere was kinda weird, because all the volunteers were only in their own group, felt not very welcoming or social

!!AVOID THIS HOSTEL!! We discovered bedbugs in our room before even spending the first night. The only “solution” offered was to move us to another room, and when we refused because we just wanted to leave, they still refused to refund the nights we never spent there. Bedbugs are a serious issue. They bite, infest luggage and clothing, and can spread to your home. The fact that the hostel does not recognize the gravity of this problem is unacceptable. SO DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STAY AWAY.

Pros lots of people, nice pool. Cons bed bugs, they ran out of water twice, people vomited all over my room, expensive, run down, lots of people with substance abuse problems.

Vibe Analysis
CHE Tulum Hostel & Bar is a downtown-leaning party hostel with a pool courtyard, bar, and a setup built around meeting people. It works best for travelers who want drinks, music, games, and a social base in Tulum rather than a quiet sleep lab. Location is one of the clearer strengths: close to Tulum downtown and the main commercial road, with restaurants, shops, a supermarket, and the bus station nearby. The property has a big kitchen, coworking space, tours, classes, events at times, and bike rental, though those extras are not consistently smooth. The pool-and-bar hangout is the main draw here. Rooms are basic, and the place can swing between fun and rowdy depending on timing, staff energy, and occupancy.
Signals to check
- Loud music can run late, and this is a poor fit for light sleepers or early starts.
- Cleanliness and maintenance are recurring weak spots, especially bathrooms, kitchen areas, towels, water pressure, and older room fittings.
- Air conditioning can be limited, hard to control, or unreliable in hot weather.
- Bike rental quality has been a problem, including unsafe-feeling bikes and weak follow-up when issues happen.
- Food left in the shared fridge may not be secure.
- Staff service is inconsistent, ranging from warm and helpful to rude, disengaged, or unclear about charges and refunds.
