Hotel Brighton

My experience at Hotel Brighton in Valparaíso, Chile did not meet reasonable expectations for accommodation quality, cleanliness, safety, or customer service. During my stay, I encountered a serious and unacceptable cleanliness issue: bed bugs in the sleeping area. This is a major health and safety concern and immediately rendered the room unsuitable for use. There were also significant maintenance and comfort problems. The window would not stay shut and repeatedly blew open throughout the night, allowing cold air and noise inside and making it impossible to rest properly. The road traffic noise was constant and very loud, and combined with unexplained and unsettling house noises, the property had an uncomfortable, almost haunted feeling that made it difficult to feel at ease. The overall environment added to this discomfort. Large black Labrador dogs roam freely around the restaurant area, and one of them growled at a male guest during my stay. Guests traveling with children or anyone uncomfortable around dogs should be aware of this, as it felt unpredictable and unsafe. The most frustrating part of the experience was the handling of these issues by management. The owner, Ruth, was unprofessional, dismissive, and at times rude when concerns were raised. Despite the severity of the problems—particularly the bed bugs—a refund was refused, with no meaningful attempt to resolve the situation. I was forced to file a complaint with Booking.com, and even after escalating the issue through them, the matter remains unresolved. Taken together, these issues show a clear disconnect between what is advertised and what is actually provided. Basic standards of cleanliness, safety, maintenance, and respectful customer service were not met. For these reasons, I cannot recommend Hotel Brighton. Guests should be able to expect a clean room, functional facilities, a safe environment, and responsive management—none of which were adequately provided during my stay.
