When I saw the dormitory bed price for 15USD of this hostel,I was expecting this must be an amazing hostel since they listed a European -standard-rate in Thailand,However at the end,I was completely and absolutely disappointed. In terms of service,I booked a 6-bed dorm but the staff put me in a 8 bed dorm, I did inform the staff about this ,and he just said: It's the same ,while the night staying there, the WiFi is totally not working,so I had to go to a bar to use the Internet to deal with some urgent work stuff. And this property is indeed with some hygiene issue,it's an old building in the rain season.so the room and toliet is mouldy everywhere, and the bed seems to have insects or bed bugs,I feel itchy all night, couldn't get a decent sleep. In the mean time, they use some very cheap material quilt,it's stuffy, extremely uncomfortable and unhealthy to sleep with it. Although they do have some nice and chic courtyard and relaxing and spacious living area but overall,I still really don't understand how did they get the confidence to sell 15USD for a dorm bed in a southeast Asia country with just an average service and quality? I really believe the management should rethink about it and match the market and value, otherwise this property will definitely running down in near future.
Vibe Analysis
The rooftop smoking area gives Yu Cafe Hostel a useful extra hangout spot above the old house, with a table and chairs for a low-key break. Downstairs, there is a garden sitting area, a living room, and a well-equipped kitchen with filtered water, fridge, kettle, microwave, and light-cooking basics. The hostel sits right in Songkhla Old Town, close to food, markets, temples, shops, massage spots, the lake, and the historic center. Transport to and from Hat Yai can be easy from the main street, while Samila and Chalatat beach are farther out and may need a ride. Inside, the place can feel cozy, chilled, and nicely decorated, with helpful staff and a friendly house-hostel atmosphere. The resident cats, including Kopi, Phe, and Capuchino, add personality, but they are not just background decor: they may climb on tables, enter rooms, or leave hair around shared areas. Rooms range from comfy private rooms to compact dorm setups. Air con can be strong, sometimes awkwardly placed above a top bunk, so temperature may vary by bed. WiFi is often fast, though it may not be fully reliable all the time.
Signals to check
- Shared bathrooms can be rustic, wet, cold, or in need of deeper cleaning.
- Cats and lake-area bugs are part of the stay, so this is not ideal for anyone sensitive to animals, hair, mosquitoes, or insects.
- Ground-floor rooms and thin walls may have noise from corridors, showers, hairdryers, or automatic hallway lights.
- Despite the name, it may not operate as a cafe.
