Bed bug reports

The reasons why we wouldn't recommend staying here; On arrival they wanted us to sign a document saying that we hadn't paid despite proof that we had. We did resolve it in the end. The stairs are incredibly steep and narrow, there's no lift, really difficult with large and heavy baggage. The safe didn't work, no kettle, the room wasn't very clean, the bedding didn't fit the bed, the bedding itself was old and grimey, no hand soap. The bathroom didn't drain properly at all so after a shower there was a good few inches of water to wade through. We didn't have any bed bugs or cockroaches but I can see why as the rooms face outside where there is rat pooh. But the worst thing is the location, yes it's very close to the museum and palace but it is actually in the heart of the red light district. Surrounding the hotel are bars and brothels full of vulnerable, young girls and old, single, white men being creepy. We saw some incredibly awful sites, lots of problems with drugs, alcohol and extreme poverty, rats and all sorts it felt very unsafe. And yes, we are very aware of the economic situation in this country but this hotel is in the middle of it and if you are a solo female traveller or traveling with children it's just not worth feeling so unsafe when you can stay somewhere better.
