Hostel Antonieta is a pretty old house in the heart of Belém, in the Nazaré area. The location is a strong point: it's walkable and feels safe, sitting close to shopping centers with a gym, the Ver-o-Peso market, and Estação das Docas, roughly a kilometer or so away on foot. The hosts are the heart of the place. Alexandre and his mother run things with genuine warmth and attention, the kind of welcome that makes people feel at home and sometimes extend their stay. They're helpful and quick to sort out requests. Rooms tend to be comfortable, clean, and well kept, and there's a calm, quiet feel that suits resting more than a party-hostel buzz. Breakfast can be a high point, with fresh ingredients and flexible timing. There's a kitchen, though it's set up for the cooks rather than for guests to use freely. A couple of caveats are worth knowing. Hot water is inconsistent: the shower can swing between very hot and very cold. Belém has mosquitoes, so bring repellent. Conditions can also vary: at its rougher, the house can show termite-damaged windows, no hot shower, a broken cold shower, broken toilet partitions, dirty mattresses, a musty smell, and a weak breakfast. That state clashes sharply with the more recent, positive impression, so things may have changed or may swing depending on when you arrive.
