Vibe Analysis

The treetop terrace view is the headline here: forest, valley, Morere, and glimpses of beach from a quiet hill above the village. Oxe feels small, homey, and nature-soaked, with hammocks, plants, art, and a calm rhythm that suits beach days, reading, slow mornings, and resetting after too much city noise. Breakfast is a major part of the stay, especially fresh tapioca, fruit, cake, juice, and coffee prepared with care. Bela and Bruno give the place a personal feel, with practical island tips, help with transfers and plans, and a warm style that can make the hostel feel closer to a shared house than a big backpacker machine. Dorms are compact but clean and functional, with curtains, lights, outlets, lockers or storage, and air conditioning in rooms. Bathrooms are usually kept very clean, and the kitchen is equipped enough for cooking. The hostel has only about 12 beds, so the social scene can be sweet and easy when the right mix is there, but it stays more intimate and peaceful than party-heavy. The location is part of the deal: the view comes from being up a sandy hill, around 5 to 15 minutes on foot from Morere depending on route and pace. Quad taxis can drop off at the door, which helps after the beach or at night.

Signals to check

  • The uphill sandy path can be tiring, especially at night, after rain, or with mobility limitations. 3 mentions Last mentioned Apr 8, 2026
  • Top bunks can be high and awkward to climb; a lower bed may be better if heights or ladders are an issue. 3 mentions Last mentioned Jan 12, 2026
  • Rooms can feel small when full, and a power cut or weak air conditioning can make ventilation uncomfortable. 3 mentions Last mentioned Apr 8, 2026
  • Mosquitoes, ants, and damp beachwear are possible in the nature setting; repellent and quick-dry gear are useful. 2 mentions Last mentioned May 6, 2026
  • Political signage on site may make the space feel less neutral for travelers who are sensitive to that topic. 3 mentions Last mentioned Feb 18, 2026
