Got bed bugs here. And that wasn’t even the worst part of my stay. BEWARE! Spent two nights here and then checked out early. Whole body covered in bites, even found one on my body while in bed.

horrible hospitality & huge blood sucking bed bugs!!! I paid 1 night here in cash and it was an absolute nightmare. After I paid they told me there was only 1 bed left. It was 1am when I went into the room. I found 5 women snoring very loudly and no AC was on, or at least I couldn’t see a switch in the dark. A hot humid room full of wet towels & swim suits. I tried to sleep but it was impossible. At 3am a girl started rummaging forever in her drawer. She was packing up to catch a flight. Then the mosquitos started or so I thought. I got bitten everywhere and my body is still traumatised a week later. I put my phone light on to try catch them and was horrified to find huge blood sucking bed bugs crawling and jumping all over my bed. I was in tears by then and so tired from my travels. I went to the reception desperate for help. He didn’t comment much. He casually said it’s happened before. There was a private room upstairs I could have. By the time he activated the key and I went in and had a shower to relieve the pain it was 6am. I tried to sleep but it was difficult with the room being on a noisy street. At 10am João knocked woke me up & said I had to check out. I was destroyed by then & literally could t see infront of me. He let me stay until 1pm but I couldn’t go back to sleep. I asked if he would let me stay in the room for a complimentary night to make up for last nights nightmare he said yes he would be happy to but everything was fully booked that weekend but I could have that same room complimentary on Monday or Tuesday. He gave me his personal email to write him and remind him. I emailed him on Sunday asking if the room was available? No answer. I emailed again. Nothing. I called the hostel no answer. They replied on WhatsApp Monday evening saying that João the general manager wasn’t available he was away and that I was mistaken as the private rooms cannot be given away complimentary for a night. I happened to be walking past the Hostel the next afternoon and I popped in to try to speak with them and show them the email João had given me. There was a girl sitting at one of the tables and the guy behind the reception they both jumped on me one after the other firing accusations aggressively telling me that I was already compensated enough by giving me the private room and what more did I want? I asked the girl to give me a chance to speak to the guy behind the reception and not to be aggressive, but she moved in closer towards me more aggressive and then the guy threw me out and told me to leave although I spoke calmly & politely. Two days later João emailed me back from his private email saying he hadn’t received my email. Nothing more was mentioned That was my first experience on my first night in Portugal.

Stayed at home hostel for two nights, in a perfect location and lovely staff, although after waking up the the first morning of stay I discovered blood in my bed and was unsure of where it had come from, it left me puzzled. Later that day I pulled the blanket completely off the bed to find all little dead bed bugs that had been feasting on my blood during the night, the second night I could not sleep as I was being attacked by them. I am literally covered in bites everywhere, I notified reception and did not seem to believe me at first until I showed him photos and all they said was “that’s serious” . It would’ve been nice to be refunded some of my money or even breakfast on the house after what I had to deal with. No sorry or anything. Such a terrible end to my trip in Portugal. Be weary!

There were bed bugs!!

Unfortunately I had a bad experience after I found a bed bug in a 6 dorm room. The other 3 women found a bed bug plus an egg. I exited the next day and was refunded a small portion of my money plus a free breakfast. The free breakfast didn’t help my situation. Apart from that it’s a nice hostel in a good location.

Me han picado chinches en la cama, he regresado a casa con picaduras insoportables en todo el cuerpo y el hostel no me ha respondido a pesar de mis mensajes y reclamo. Todo estuvo excelente excepto por esto.

I’m not sure how the hostel is so well rated. The location is good and it has a good social aspect but felt that it was quite expensive for what you are getting. The bedding was not clean. I got some bites the first night and hoping it’s not bed bugs. They changed my sheets but didn’t really inquire about it after. The men’s bathroom wasn’t clean and it was 1 urinal, a few toilets and showers for the whole floor. No working AC in our room either. Not worth it in my opinion.
