Bed bug reports

THIS ACCOMODATION HAS BED BUGS. Stayed 2 nights, woke up after the first night with a few bites on my leg, gave the benefit of the doubt that it wasn’t from the bed. The second morning woke up with bites covering my entire body. Hostel staff took no accountability, gave no apology and offered no remedy. DO NOT STAY HERE.

The hostel is located near the main road and looks really cozy and clean. Breakfast is included and good for a hostel breakfast. Unfortunately we had bedbugs in our bed!!! We stayed there for 3 nights and noticed the first bites after we checked out. We informed the hostel immediately but never got a response or apology or anything. Hope they cleaned the matresses and beds

Vibe Analysis
Calafate Hostel is a central, budget-minded El Calafate base: close to the main strip, restaurants, shops, and the practical glacier-transfer/tour orbit. It works best if your plan is to crash, cook a little, stash bags, do laundry, and launch at Perito Moreno or El Chalten without turning the hostel itself into the whole plot. The vibe is more utilitarian than electric. There are big common spaces, a lounge, balcony/garden energy, and some room to chill, but the social scene is weak. It seems better for groups, couples, or short-stay backpackers than for solo travelers trying to find a crew; the common areas can feel quiet or shut down early, and there are no real events. Rooms are hit-or-miss. Some stays land clean, warm, comfortable, or spacious; others hit old mattresses, cramped dorms/private rooms, too much heat, thin walls, noisy beds, tired bathrooms, and sketchy shower temperature. The hostel can feel like an old Patagonian workhorse that still moves, but makes noises doing it. Service can be useful but inconsistent. Reception can help with tours, taxis, check-in, and local advice, but disengaged desk moments and transfer/tour confusion are part of the risk. Breakfast exists and can be enough before an early excursion, but do not build a culinary mythology around it: basic eggs/fruit/toast/coffee is the likely universe.
Signals to check
- Kitchen setup is a real bottleneck when the hostel is busy: under-equipped, sometimes dirty, and not great for serious cooking.
- Bathrooms and showers are inconsistent, with hot-water, odor, mold, pressure, and cleanliness complaints.
- Breakfast is basic and can be disappointing, especially if you expect more than eggs, fruit, toast, and coffee.
- Sleep comfort can be rough: old mattresses, noisy bunks, thin walls, and rooms that run too hot are realistic risks.
- This is not a strong social hostel for solo travelers; expect a practical base more than built-in events or an instant crew.
- Inspect the bed on arrival if pest issues would ruin the stay.
