BE AWARE OF BEDBUGS!! A friend and I had booked two nights in this hostel. Unfortunately we had to find out that there were bedbugs in our room and also in the other rooms!!!! The manager and the receptionist were not helpful at all and showed little understanding. They had part of our luggage and promised to deliver it to our new accommodation (which we had to get to in the middle of the night) and in the end they made us pay and lied about other stuff aswell. We would never recommend this place to anyone!!!

CAREFUL BEDBUGS!!! After checking 3 different rooms we decided to change the hostel. Bedbugs in every bed. The students working there were doing their best, reception and management wasn’t helpful at all. They promised us to help but they didn’t and even tried to charge us for extras. Horrible customer service. Definitely not recommended.

Vibe Analysis

HOOD Hostel is student-run, with classrooms on the premises and a grassroots feel that gives it a very different pulse from a polished chain hostel. The team can be genuinely useful in Yangon: SIM cards, money exchange, bus tickets, Grab help, local restrictions, printing, laundry, and practical route advice are all part of the value here. The location is a major strength: downtown Yangon, close to Sule Pagoda, money changers, eateries, shops, monuments, malls, and the airport bus stop. Dorm beds may include privacy curtains, plugs, reading lights, lockers, air con, towels, warm showers, filtered water, and decent WiFi. The rooftop can work for quiet calls or breakfast, and when other backpackers are around, the place can turn social quickly. The tradeoff is condition. HOOD has clearly had better-funded days, and cleanliness is inconsistent. Bathrooms, sheets, pillows, balconies, stairs, and shared areas may be rough, damp, moldy, or under-cleaned. Power and water can be unreliable, hot water can depend on electricity or generator use, and maintenance issues include weak AC, broken locks, poor ventilation, flooding bathrooms, and tired rooms. Come for a central, helpful, budget base with a young local team and a bit of student-community weirdness. Skip it if you need crisp hotel standards, spotless bathrooms, stable utilities, clear pricing, or a room that matches glossy photos.
