Bed bug reports

Bedbugs!! In two different rooms, two different guests, two different nights, same symptoms. Definitely confirmed. The staff accused the other person of lying when they told them about the bugs. Only spent one night there, but already full with bites. Don't even want to mention the electric outlet in the middle of the shower. No amount of niceness from the staff is compensating for this.

⭐ 1 Star Review for Hostel Cruz Del Sur I wish someone had mentioned this place before, because I feel I need to normalize sharing my experience. Unfortunately, it was terrible. The hostel was smelly, not clean, and infested with bed bugs—I was bitten multiple times even on the very first night. We booked a private double room without a private bath and paid $85 USD, which is the most I’ve ever spent on a hostel or budget hotel for such a room. Sadly, it turned out to be the worst experience in all my travel history. This was money wasted, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here to anyone.

The guy in charge is extremely unapproachable. You can’t even ask him a simple question without him either rolling his eyes or telling you he isn’t on shift therefore he can’t be bothered at all. The lady who cleans is constantly yelling at people and being very rude in general. The workers steal food from the guests, but all that pales in comparison to the bedbugs!!! Do yourself a favor a go someone else.

Too cramped and bed bug issue

Confirmed Hostelworld
Bed bugs. I woke with bed bug bites (lines/zigzags) on my arms night 1 and all over my back night 2. Staff didn’t take it seriously but rather flipped the mattress and sprayed Lysol. I asked about a refund and emailed again to follow up but they did not offer any assistance. I had 4 nights paid in full, which I had to eat the cost for. The atmosphere and staff are great but the negatives of my experiences absolutely outweigh the positives. It was room 1. No bites since.. definitely this hostel.

Vibe Analysis
Cruz del Sur Hostel is a central Ushuaia backpacker box with the classic ingredients: warm beds, simple breakfast, shared kitchen, hiking chatter, staff advice, and a location that makes town logistics easy. Recent positive stays make it sound like a small, friendly, social place where people end up cooking, planning treks, and trading cold-weather stories. The catch is density. Rooms can be tiny, triple bunks are a thing, the kitchen gets crowded, and the comfort level depends heavily on which room, season, and staff moment you hit. It can be a proper hostel-with-soul stop; it can also feel overpacked, rule-heavy, and rough if you need space or quiet.
Signals to check
- Recent bedbug complaints are a serious warning.
- Dorms can be cramped, hot, and short on outlets or storage.
- Breakfast and kitchen access are basic and can clash with early hikes.
