Explain how it works
We compare every 5★ review's word count against the global distribution. Hostels where unusually many top-rated reviews are suspiciously short — way under the typical length — start to look like the staff (or a boost-my-listing service) is padding the score with throwaway praise.
The detector flags reviews that are both top-rated and below a length threshold, then estimates how many of them statistically shouldn't exist. For this hostel we scanned 2420 top-rated reviews and 0% were suspiciously short.
Length z-score: 7.45. A z-score measures how far this hostel's distribution of 5★ review lengths sits from the global average, in standard deviations. 0 = perfectly typical. 1–2 = slightly unusual but within normal noise. 3–5 = strongly anomalous. Anything 10+ means the pattern is so far from the global norm that it's effectively impossible to get there organically.
This is a heuristic, not a verdict — it surfaces hostels worth a second look, not proof of fraud. Read the actual reviews below and judge for yourself.

Pressure to leave a review
asked to leave so housekeeping can clean is frustrating
The location is absolutely brilliant, right in the heart of the city with easy access to everything. The staff are friendly, helpful and genuinely lovely people. The hostel itself has a great vibe, good facilities, and I would normally have no hesitation recommending it.However, there were two major issues that significantly affected my stay:Major renovation work was taking place throughout my entire visit, but this was never mentioned at booking or check-in. Every morning (starting as early as 8 am) I was woken up by loud banging, drilling, and the sound of metal being dropped. It was impossible to sleep in or have a relaxed morning. Offering rooms at full price while heavy construction is ongoing, without any warning or discount, feels unfair and dishonest to guests. Daily room cleaning policy: This is the only hostel I've ever stayed in that requires guests to completely vacate the room (even if you're in the middle of sleeping after a late night) while cleaning takes place. Being woken up and asked to leave so housekeeping can clean is frustrating and unnecessary in a hostel environment. With better transparency about the building work (and ideally a partial refund or discounted rate during renovations) this would easily be a 5-star hostel. As it stands, the lack of communication and the disruption caused left me disappointed. I hope management addresses these issues because the potential here is huge.
