BED BUGS : Do not book. My whole body is covered in bites. We stayed only one night and we had to switch rooms in the middle of the night because it was unbearable. The next morning I noticed bed bugs crawling the walls of the second room. I asked staff when the exterminator would be called but nobody could give me an answer. We got a complete refund and went to a different hotel.

Got bit by bedbugs all over both legs and they only have 1 bathroom for 5 rooms with 50 guests, which is absurd! The free breakfast is bread and coffee, lol. You get what you pay for. Better off sleeping outside, it's much cleaner.

Vibe Analysis
Viajero Colonia has one monster stat: location. It sits in Colonia's historic core, by the square, church, cafes, and restaurants, with the riverside and the bus/ferry terminal within an easy walk. The building has real old-house charm too: patios, garden/terrace space, a bar/restaurant area, games/common rooms, and some dorm beds with curtains, light, plug, and a small locker. Treat it as a scruffy short-stop base rather than a polished social machine. At its best, it works for wandering Old Town, hanging outside between walks, and maybe catching a social night when the bar or music is active. The scene is inconsistent: some stays are quiet and almost empty with little backpacker atmosphere, while others run loud with music or live sets in the courtyard/bar after midnight. Flexible, young, no-frills travelers will probably read the chaos better than light sleepers. The weak points are the basics. The building seems old and under-maintained, with recurring problems around dirty bathrooms, damp or sewage smells, worn beds/linens/carpets, tiny lockers, patchy Wi-Fi, and a kitchen that is too small and poorly equipped for the number of beds. Staff can be friendly and helpful, but problem-solving is uneven. Best use case: one or two nights for the location and character, eat out, keep expectations low on facilities, and keep valuables locked down.
