I had to change hostels last minute because the one I had reserved had bedbugs, so I found this hostel while in Amsterdam and stressed and desperate! However, I am so glad that things worked out the way they did. Hostelle was clean, in a quiet area, and the bed was comfortable. I’ve never been in a hostel where everyone was out and about hanging out in the hallways or down in the dining area. The girls were walking around in their PJs comfortably and there was a space for yoga with mats provided! There were empowering messages everywhere you looked and the environment felt very secure. I would recommend Hostelle to every female traveler heading to Amsterdam!

Hostelle was just what I needed for my trip to Amsterdam! I was traveling alone and had never stayed in a hostel by myself before. I didn't feel comfortable about booking with a male/female hostel, so I felt that Hostelle was my best option even though it is not directly in the city center. I really enjoyed my stay and would book in again if I were visiting on my own or with other girls! FACILITIES The hostel itself was very nice! The decor was fun and quirky. Bathrooms were clean and the shower area was very private. I appreciated that the showers had *doors* instead of curtains as well as cubbies and hooks to store your clothes so they wouldn't get wet. I was in the "Kill Bill" themed room with 7 other guests. The beds are metal framed bunk beds. Each bed has sheets, pillow, 2 shelves at the head of the bed, a lamp, and a storage locker (on the floor). It was clean, comfortable, and I did not see bedbugs as reported in (very old) reviews. The kitchen was nice and I saw the staff cleaning it every night. Many tables for eating and socializing with other guests. The TV area was a nice spot to chat with others or sit down with tea and a book. SERVICE The staff were incredibly helpful for me. I had many questions about using public transportation, and they gave me such clear answers. They often gave me suggested routes with the exact tram/metro lines to take. They also have a lot of suggestions for what to do in the city. They were always friendly and more than happy to answer questions. LOCATION The location is actually very good. Bijlmer ArenA station (which has bus, metro, train lines) is maybe a 10 minute walk from the hostel. The route from the station passes by a shopping mall, many restaurants and fast food chains, grocery stores, electronic shops, etc. The area is always busy with people commuting, shopping, or just enjoying their day. Above the shops, there are apartments with families. These families are always walking their babies or chatting in the streets. Someone said they felt the area was "unsafe", but I disagree. It was well populated and well lit. The only time I felt a little nervous was when I had to catch a 5 am bus to the airport, but the route was still lit and like I said, the walk is surrounded by apartments with families. COMPLAINTS I don't have many complaints, except that the top bunks do not have railings. If you tend to toss and turn in your sleep, I would suggest requesting a lower bunk when you book in. Also, the showers were tricky to get a nice temperature. Turning the hot water knob even slightly would result in very hot water. It works out eventually, but a lot of fine tuning required. The lights in the shower room are also motion sensor, so if you are showering at a time when not many people are coming in/out of the shower room, the lights may turn off on you. I just kept my towel on the door and waved it around every few minutes so the lights would stay on.

BEDBUGS! I slept there for one night after a concert and two days later my whole body was itching. Also the beds didn’t seem very clean and the bedsheets are polyester. But other than that very sweet hostel, good atmosphere, tea and coffee station and nice staff.

Vibe Analysis

Hostelle is a women-only Amsterdam hostel in the Bijlmer/Arena side of the city, not a canal-ring hangout. Its practical win is transport: metro, buses, Bijlmer station, the Arena, food, shops, and airport access are all part of the useful setup. The better version has themed rooms, privacy curtains in some beds, kitchen or coffee access, and decent value if you already have your own plans in Amsterdam. The vibe is quiet dorm lodging more than backpacker chemistry lab. It is not a strong social-hostel pick, with little community energy or organized activity. The bigger caution is the basics: bathrooms and showers can be dirty, staff warmth is inconsistent, lockers and storage are weak points, and late-night return can feel uncomfortable for solo women. The women-only concept is real, but it does not automatically make the stay feel safe or warm.
