Lillehammer Hostell
Vibe Analysis
Lillehammer Hostell is built right into the train station, which makes it unusually practical for arriving by rail, catching buses to ski areas, or dropping bags early and getting straight into town. The station setting gives it a curious little edge, and the rooms are often quieter than the location might suggest. Breakfast is a real strength here, with a buffet that may include eggs, salmon or herring, plus coffee, tea and juice. Free coffee is available through the day, and there is a guest kitchen with useful equipment, including an oven, for low-fuss meals. The setup is simple, central, and mostly clean, with friendly staff and a relaxed bistro/cafe feel around the eating areas. It works best for a short, convenient Lillehammer stop, especially without a car, rather than a big social hostel built around a large common room.
Signals to check
- Rooms can be very small, especially four-bed rooms with luggage.
- Parking is limited or paid nearby, and loading close to the building may be awkward.
- Noise is mixed: train noise is often low, but sound from nearby rooms or station activity may still be an issue.
- Some bunks may lack curtains, lights, outlets, or easy storage space.
- Gluten-free breakfast handling may need extra caution.
