Explain how it works
We compare every 5★ review's word count against the global distribution. Hostels where unusually many top-rated reviews are suspiciously short — way under the typical length — start to look like the staff (or a boost-my-listing service) is padding the score with throwaway praise.
The detector flags reviews that are both top-rated and below a length threshold, then estimates how many of them statistically shouldn't exist. For this hostel we scanned 330 top-rated reviews and 1% were suspiciously short.
Length z-score: 6.51. A z-score measures how far this hostel's distribution of 5★ review lengths sits from the global average, in standard deviations. 0 = perfectly typical. 1–2 = slightly unusual but within normal noise. 3–5 = strongly anomalous. Anything 10+ means the pattern is so far from the global norm that it's effectively impossible to get there organically.
This is a heuristic, not a verdict — it surfaces hostels worth a second look, not proof of fraud. Read the actual reviews below and judge for yourself.

review so others don't experience the same thing. They were happy to refund
Bed bugs. Sorry to call management out but it's really inconvenient to book a room and not be able to stay because of bed bugs. So I need to leave this review so others don't experience the same thing. They were happy to refund but if I didn't examine the mattresses I'd have brought bed bugs home which is of course a huge problem. Room did not look like the pics online (dingier) which made think I should investigate. I hope they are able to resolve this problem quickly.

refunds. Today on my way home from that stay (celebrating
I would not recommend this location to nonsmokers. After check-in I asked for a room that didn't smell of smoke and two rooms later I was informed by the manager on duty that ALL of their rooms were allowed for smokers. I told the manager I was not aware of this because as a chronic asthmatic we would never have booked there. He told us it wasn't his problem the rooms smelled of smoke I told him this was no more my problem than it was his. By room three he was frustrated and so was I. Room three didn't smell of smoke which I find coincidental after asking for a full refund to which the manager said there are no refunds. Today on my way home from that stay (celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary) we've agreed never to stay there again.

Vibe Analysis
Ramada Atlantic City West is a budget stop near Atlantic City, with a practical location for the Boardwalk, casinos, concerts, the beach, and nearby attractions. Parking is available, and the price can be lower than closer options. The property seems best for a short, low-expectation sleep-and-go visit. Staff can be friendly or helpful, and breakfast is included, but breakfast quality and selection vary a lot by day. There are two very different lodging setups here: a main hotel-style building and an older motel-style area. The motel side can feel run-down, smoky, musty, and less comfortable, especially for pet bookings. Cleanliness is the big risk. Smoke and mildew smells, stained bedding or towels, dirty bathrooms, worn carpets, old fixtures, plumbing problems, and unreliable room maintenance all show up as recurring issues. The pool exists, but it may be closed, cold, dirty, or not match expectations.
Signals to check
- Expect an older, worn property rather than a polished Atlantic City base.
- Smoke, mildew, and general cleanliness problems are recurring risks.
- Bathrooms and plumbing may be outdated or unreliable.
- Breakfast is included but can be basic or inconsistent.
- Pool access and condition may be unreliable.
- Pet stays may involve extra fees and older rooms.
- Noise, sketchy activity, and security concerns may affect comfort.
