Bath YMCA

Woke on the first night to visible bed bugs in the bed and some crawling over me. Led to around 60 bites in total that were swollen and extremely itchy, lasting for over a week. This had a significant impact on me, with no sleep, and therefore my time in Bath, where I was presenting at a conference. I was meant to stay for two nights; however, they did not have an alternative room for me on the second night after the issue was identified. I therefore had to find alternative accommodation on short notice, which was significantly more expensive due to limited availability. Despite the significant harm to my body and effectively no sleep on the one night I was there, the hostel refused to refund me for this night or provide any compensation for what had happened and only refunded the night when they could not provide a room. A message from the manager said they don't know how they got bedbugs and blamed it on the previous guests who "must have left them there". Very disappointed with first the awful experience of this overnight and subsequent impact but also the lack of ownership from the hostel and refusal to refund the two nights despite there being clear photographic evidence of the issue.

It wasn’t clean very unhygienic it didn’t feel safe and there was bed bugs in the room.

I was mainly massively disappointed with the bathroom, showers and toilets, and how dirty they were. Honestly, the bathrooms on camping sites are in much better condition - and I camp a lot. This made me also worried if the rest of the spaces are also dirty too (like bed bugs etc). Definitely going to wash all my clothes and bag after this stay as soon as I'm back home. The hostel has potential but whoever runs it, clearly doesn't care. I will not be coming back.

Bedbugs, filthy bathrooms, mold, dust. I have a hundred bedbug bites, got sick after I left and was cat-called at or approached by dodgy people around the area. Not great!
