City Backpackers Hostel
Bed bug reports

The hostel’s location was in a safe area, not far from the centre. The atmosphere felt very nice, the common areas were always kept clean. The only con I’d like to point out is that I had bedbugs/fleas in my bed. I found out on my last day when I was checking out. I don’t think it’s the hostel’s fault tho, because everything was always clean. At the reception they told me they don’t allow to bring your own bed linen for this exact purpose. But overall, I had a great time:)

Good stay here, the hostel is nice and location is pretty good. Had a bed bug crawl on me on my last night though although the bed was clean…. The free washing machine and dryer is really helpful! Atmosphere was a bit eh

Vibe Analysis
City Backpackers Hostel is a central Stockholm base with a big kitchen, common areas, a courtyard setup, and a sauna that gives the place more personality than a plain crash pad. Free pasta is part of the budget math, and tea or coffee may be available during set hours. The location is the easy win: Central Station, transit, Drottninggatan, and walkable city zones are all close enough for low-friction exploring. The social side is real but uneven. At its best, the hostel feels friendly, active, and easy to plug into, with staff who can be warm and helpful, evening activity energy, a bar or courtyard buzz, and enough shared space to find company. At its worst, it can feel impersonal, reserved, or chaotic, especially with kiosk-style check-in, limited reception hours, and a maze of corridors, levels, doors, and changing access codes. Rooms are the tradeoff. Dorms can be cramped, beds are often squeaky, privacy curtains are generally missing, and some basement or inside rooms have little daylight, weak ventilation, or no windows. Bathrooms and showers are a recurring weak spot: small, old, sometimes dirty, sometimes short on soap or toilet paper, and not always conveniently placed. This is a better fit for low-maintenance backpackers who want location, kitchen access, sauna potential, and a bit of scene energy than for anyone trying to optimize sleep, polish, or frictionless comfort.
Signals to check
- Bed linen is compulsory and costs extra; towels may also cost extra.
- Late arrival depends on codes and instructions, with no 24-hour reception safety net.
- Some rooms are in basement or low-light areas, and ventilation can be poor.
- Noise can carry from the courtyard, bar, kitchen, stairs, doors, and dorm beds.
- Bathrooms and showers may feel small, old, limited, or inconsistently clean.
- No-shoes rules, shoe smells, changing codes, and a maze-like layout can make the setup feel fussy.
