Found BED BUGS in the bed. I have bites all over my legs and had they not asked for full payment upfront at check-in, I would have left on day 1 The bathrooms are extremely dirty. I found solidified excreta on the toilet seat at two occasions suggesting they haven't been cleaned properly since a long time. There were only two toilets for women staying in the entire floor which was very inconvenient. For men, there was only one. No common kitchen. No water fountains anywhere. Food at the restaurant below is subpar.

Found BED BUGS in the bed on day 1. I felt horrible and it was difficult to sleep for the rest of the duration. This is probably the reason they ask you to pay upfront during booking as the conditions of the beds are very unhygienic The BATHROOMS ARE EXTREMELY DIRTY. I found solidified excreta on the toilet seat at two occasions suggesting they haven't been cleaned properly since a long time. There were only two toilets for women staying in the entire floor which was very inconvenient. For men, there was only one When the cleaners clean rooms they spend about five minutes at every room. I was unfortunate to witness their cleaning one day and saw how they emptied the dustbin and went on to make someone's bed without washing hands. No common kitchen. No water fountains anywhere. Food at the restaurant below is subpar.

This is probably the reason they ask you to pay upfront during booking as the conditions of the beds are very unhygienic The bathrooms are extremely dirty. I found solidified shit on the toilet seat at two occasions suggesting they haven't been cleaned properly since a long time. There were only two toilets for women staying in the entire floor which was very inconvenient. For men, there was only one When the cleaners clean rooms they spend about five minutes at every room so you can understand how good the cleaning process is. I was unfortunate to witness their cleaning one day and saw how they emptied the dustbin and went on to make someone's bed without washing hands. See how dusty it is below the beds to realize how bad the cleaning is. No common kitchen. No water fountains anywhere. Food at the restaurant below is subpar. For the cost of 45-50 euros per night for a bed, this was a disastrous experience. I would never staying at The People again mostly for hygiene reasons. Clean bathrooms and beds free of bed bugs is the least they can provide for this much money. What's even sadder is that reviews have been complaining of dirty toilets and bed bugs since a year. At this point I thought these issues would be sorted given the rating was high. I doubt the authenticity of good reviews and good rating for this place.

Bed bugs in dorm room 402. Woke up at 4:30am to bites, found bed bugs and took a photo. They were helpful and gave me a private room for 2 nights.

The location is good, the downstairs bar is nice and the capsule beds allow for privacy. However, I’m pretty sure I got bit by bedbugs the whole time and the showers were inconveniently structured. Rooms are isolated from the reception area, so as a female solo traveler it didn’t make me feel the most safe. Also I was unlucky enough to get the bed that had 4 lockers underneath it so my roommates were constantly rummaging next to my head

An ok stay… My very tiny 8 ppl room had signs of bed bugs… And the air conditioning didn’t work in summer 😔Additionally, it’s hard to meet other travelers because the common area is full of older French locals and there’s no bar crawls. but the staff was really lovely and the bathrooms were nice and clean. The location was a bit sketchy but mostly easy to get into town.

Atmosphere here was amazing but my friend and I left covered in bedbug bites. Location is sick if you want somewhere fun to explore, but nothing is worth getting bedbugs.

Rooftop and lobby were really nice. Cool area, a bit far from main attractions but I prefer that. Belleville seemed cool and felt fine walking around at night. I would not stay here again though because the room was unbearably hot at night and I left covered in bedbug bites😩

I got bedbugs here. Besides, it was incredibly hot in the rooms, very noisy all Night from the bar under the hostel, and the bathrooms were smelly. It is located in a sketchy area far from the city centre. Do not stay here.

There were bedbugs in the beds. Every night I woke up bitten, with itchy spots. Same for my roommates

The hostel is ok in general but there were a lot of bed bugs in our room. We came back with a lot of bite marks. The bathrooms had an unpleasant smell and the showers were sometimes dirty

This place is not set up for travelers. Decent place to lay your head after a day of walking but not worth it otherwise. They have events every night but it’s geared toward locals rather than travelers (60 yo men doing karaoke). No way of meeting people other than on Hostelworld chat. Place seems clean enough but got attacked by bugs every night (not bed bugs). 1 toilet for the whole floor is insane. Also, the bathroom lights are on a sensor and it went off while in the shower and I slipped…

Friend and I got mysteriously “upgraded”, we both woke up with red itchy bug bites all over our arms. Sheets look clean but the ledges are absolutely filthy, the lamp in my bed fell off the wall, and the “free beer” is literally about 4oz lmao. I will say that the location is not bad at all despite other reviews - close to a metro and cool area. Not many communal activities. Edit: these are definitely bed bug bites!! Beware - we were on bottom bunks in room 103.

Nice hostel for my first tim staying in one! The rooms are a bit small but works. No bed bugs from my stay - Nov 2023. There are lockers at the bottom that are deep. The beds come with curtains, a lamp and outlets. The bathrooms were clean and I saw staff maintaining them often. There are activities like Karaoke night at the bar, so lots of ways to meet people. Location is good for being farther away - it’s close to metro and about 1 hour walk to major attractions. I would stay here again!

I stayed 5 nights in the private room on the rooftop. Belleville feels like a very unsafe neighborhood. The hostel is fine, however the bathroom smells funny and the shower head was very dirty, I don't think it has ever been cleaned. During my last night, I got so many bites that I don't know if it was just mosquitos or bed bugs too. The air conditioner was also making weird noises every once in a while disturbing our sleep. I don't recommend staying in this neighborhood is very dirty and again feels unsafe.

The hostel is super cool and the bar is very good for solo travelers especially for meeting new people. The vibe is great. However in my room there was a very sick person (like 60y old) who was always coughing, and there were bed bugs. So bad because the hostel itself is great.

Bed bugs - don't stay here. I know that any hotel, Airbnb, hostel etc can get bed bugs. However, when I informed them that i was covered in bug bites after ONE night and asked them to make it right I got no response. My email was ignored. Clearly, they are aware of the issue and don't care to fix it or apologize in any way for the terrible and icky experience.

Currently has a bed bug problem. I stayed there Thursday night (Sept 22) and both me and my roommates woke up covered in bites. I have noticed the hostel and they did respond they would check but have not responded yet to the photos I sent them. Hence the 3 stars

A bit more out of the way than I anticipated. There wasn't much to do on the property, would have been nice to have a better atmosphere. Rooms for comfortable but unfortunately I did experience bed bugs!

I don't usually write a review but I am making an exception to warn you. I never stayed at a hostel before but I booked the private rooftop room with one bed and bathroom. Looked great, great view, nice room. I awoke the next morning with my face covered in bug bites!! I inspected the mattress and saw evidence which could be bed bugs! I told the front desk and he said it was probably mosquitoes which it wasn't because I would have known if mosquitos bit me 10 times on the face and my room was sealed with air conditioning. I wrote the hotel an email to inform them and hope they sterilize that room and get a new mattress and their response was "Aw thanks for your feedback, we're sorry for the problem you encountered". Don't stay in room 603.

Only giving 2 stars due to the excellent customer service that the staff provided. The rest of the problem? I stayed here for only 2 nights, and it was only here where I had about 20 bed bug bites on my upper body. It doesn't help that I am allergic to bug bites, and the bites became extremely swollen.
