Bed bug reports

The bed was painfully not clean, like visibly dirty. It was very loud as it was literally right above the train station which is listed nowhere. The staff were rude, when I asked where the fridge was he made a rude comment that was like “in the kitchen, where fridges always are” like if I knew where the kitchen was why would I be asking. Also my other friend stayed here and got bed bugs

Title: Bed bug bites during stay – very stressful experience I stayed at Sunset Destination Hostel with two friends from 26 February to 2 March. During our stay one of my friends found a bed bug in the bed sheets, which was immediately reported to the staff. At the time I didn’t connect the situation, but during those same days I started developing multiple bites on my body. After discovering the insect in the room, it became clear that the bites were very likely caused by bed bugs. Anyone who has experienced this knows how stressful it is, especially when you are traveling. After returning home we had to take preventive measures to avoid bringing an infestation into our homes, including taking coats, backpacks, shoes and clothes to a professional laundry service. What made the situation even more disappointing was the way the issue was handled afterwards. Instead of taking the matter seriously and trying to find a fair solution, the response from management was very dismissive and no meaningful resolution was offered. Finding bed bugs in your bed while traveling is already a very unpleasant experience, but the lack of responsibility afterwards made it even worse. For travelers who care about hygiene and peace of mind, I would strongly recommend considering other accommodation options in Lisbon.

Bed bugs found in the bed – hygiene issue I stayed at Sunset Destination Hostel from 26 February to 2 March 2026. During my stay, I found a bed bug in my bed, which was immediately verified by the staff. One of my friends also had multiple bites during the stay. This is a serious hygiene issue that should not be ignored. After leaving, all three of us had to take preventive measures, including professional laundry of coats, shoes, backpacks, and clothes, at a cost of €76.90 just for my own items. Despite reporting the issue immediately, the hostel did not respond adequately to follow-up emails or requests for a proper refund. Communication was slow, and no real resolution was offered. I cannot recommend this hostel to anyone concerned about cleanliness or health, and I strongly advise future guests to take precautions if considering staying here.

Hi! I’m Lilia from Ukraine, living in Slovenia. My friend and I came to Lisbon for 4 days to explore the city. The hostel was great: – excellent location, – no bedbugs, – clean bedding, – no lines for the toilet or shower, – the girls cleaned every day. We liked everything!

I got a bedbug in my second night there. At 4am the reception staff were super helpful and washed & dried all my belongings and I changed rooms as well. If it wasn't for this I would've definitely marked it higher, but it's hard to ignore

The staff were pretty rude, pretty sure I found a bed bug. Being so close to the train station is convenient, but the area feels too busy and not like you're in the real lisboa. the place itself was nice, but it wasn't my favourite. I would reccommend staying somewhere else unless being close to the train station is very important. Also, in certain rooms you have to cross over the train station which is kind of weird.

Soy Booking Genius.

Property was solid, right on the water which was nice. Large hostel with many new people moving in and out, would advise to check for bed bugs. Staff friendly, nice rooftop patio, nice kitchen, location made it easy to get onto public transport and ferries. Would recommend!

I believe there were bedbugs. Every morning I woke up with itchy bites. There was also one staff member, a young guy with braces, who was rude and could barely be bothered to help the guests with simple questions. The rooms were okay, lighting was limited and the bathrooms were moldy. The pool needed a deep cleaning desperately.

Warning: bed bugs! (last week of August, 2023) Bit pricey for what you get. Overall, place looks pretty. Decorations are nice and the rooftop bar is cool. Room aircon was not working, so the room boiling hot, making it difficult to sleep. There is not really an inside place to chill/socialize, only the rooftop where the sun can be scorching during the day. The music in the evening is a bit too loud there to have proper conversations and it's often too busy to sit down.

Bed bugs!!! Woke up after my first night with bed bug bites. Gave them the benefit of the doubt amd decided not to complain because after all, maybe it was just mosquitoes. Second night I saw the bed bugs on my bed. After waiting for hours to speak to management the next day, they were rude to me about it and only refunded me 50% of the 2 nights that I had already stayed which isn't good enough as I didn't come here to get bitten by a bug that I'm actually allergic to. I had to go to the pharmacy and buy anti histamines because the bites were turning into welts and the hostel wouldn't compensate me for that either.

Location was central and staff was nice. Hostel felt rundown. The place was not the most secure especially given that right outside the hostel the area was shady and lots of drunks, homeless etc. some security doors inside the hostal wings did not work. The beds and stairs into beds in the dorms were old and broken. The mattress was super uncomfortable and there were bed bugs. I came home covered in bed bug bites. The odor in the dorm was bad and the bathrooms were rundown. No environment either

I didn't have as great of an experience as the other reviews I've seen. My room was located in a busy area with too few bathrooms. I would stay again in a different part of the hostel. Pros: - Great location by the water, train station, bars, restaurants, etc. - Awesome staff, all were helpful and friendly - Breakfast was minimal and busy but the best I've had in a hostel - Rooftop lounge and food were frequently used and a great place to hang out and meet others. Service was a little slow at times but the tasty burger made up for it. Cons: - Twin private room was located in a hallway that nearly everyone on the second floor passes by. Loud footsteps and talking right outside the door at all hours. Bring earplugs. - Mysterious bug bites all over my face, arms, and hands. Over 10 bites in a 24 hour period. Very itchy. These weren't bed bugs, possibly mosquitoes. - Not enough bathrooms. Every time I used the restroom someone would jiggle the hangle or try to open the door. The shower water was warm at best. Luckily they were always very clean.
