I would have liked to have used my own pillow, but I wasn't allowed to. The pillow that was provided was very low quality, so I kind of ended up with a sore neck in the morning. I understand the logic behind no allowing guests to bring their "own linen" (lice? bedbugs?) but I've stayed at dozens of places an none have ever had this requirement. Also, as an Australian, I didn't think they'd require that I had a valid passport in order to prove my identity, but, I suppose they are trying to keep locals out. Which, I understand from a business perspective, but I wouldn't choose a place like this again.

Vibe Analysis
Nomads St Kilda is built for the St Kilda social circuit: bar energy downstairs, regular night activities, bingo, cheap drink specials at times, and an easy setup for meeting party-minded backpackers. The location is a major part of the appeal, with the beach, Acland Street, trams, Albert Park access, and local nightlife close by. Free breakfast can include pancakes, and the staff often seem relaxed, friendly, and willing to help with late check-in or social plans. The Goki app can unlock doors without a card or wristband, though the code/app access flow may feel clunky when moving through the building. The best fit is a short, high-energy stay where sleep is not the main mission. Rooms are basic rather than polished, with recurring issues around noise, damp smells, worn beds, limited privacy, and one ensuite bathroom serving a whole dorm. The kitchen is available but can feel small, basement-like, worn, and messy, so this is stronger as a party base than as a comfy long-stay home.
